Hi , I recently turned 16 and I'm starting to think that I need a makeover, a complete change and I wanna start with my hair which I have always found dull. It's long, brown and straight. I have bangs but they never stay the way I want them to. Here are a couple of pics of me : http://www.flickr.com/photos/toxicwashere/sets/72157594346444404/
My eyes are brown (almost black) Any suggestions?

I actually really like your hair the way it is. Mine was pretty long at some point and I thought I wanted a change too so I got layers, I cut it shorter - I did all of that but in the end I regretted it and wanted my old hair back. I had cut long bangs side swept into my hair and those took forever to grow back.

If I were you, I would leave it alone and wait a bit to color it or anything if that is what you are interested in doing a few more years. My mom always told me when I was younger just to leave my hair alone and I should have listened to her - you will get to be 20 and be like why did I do that?? A lot of things can damage your hair so just be careful. You may want to do highlights now anyway - if you do, just try some dark blond ones, lighter brown ones, reddish hues if you like that - in the front at first and see how that goes - can add some depth.

Personally, I think you are a beautiful girl whose hair looks perfect the way it is. We always get sick of our look and want change but it is not always best - just try to think about that because anything major, you might regret.. Just letting you know :o) I just read some answer telling you to "frost it" and then do it again - words of advice - frosting went out in the 80s (if it was ever in that is) and does not look good at all. Stick to warm tones for highlights or even see someone about a glaze they can put on your hair which rinses out but it can change the color a bit temporarily but it rinses out eventually. Also, there are totally clear glazes that make it really really shiny which is nice too. Just - no frosting.. that is for cakes only - really. haha :)

You may want to grow out your bangs and try the ones that are longer and not even they go up across the cut - that is very "in style" now and it has been for some time. Most women dream of having long straight hair - brown or blond - it took me years to get mine back to the way I like it - long, blond, no bangs and straight. I would try to grow your bangs out completely if that would work with your forehead (some people hate their foreheads or think they are too big to not have bangs). I don't see that being a problem with you so you might want to completely grow it out and have it cut a little more choppy at the ends.

Whatever you do - if someone tells you to get layers, I would not do it. If you really really want to, get very very long layers. When we are used to nice long. kinda flat hair, layers can add too much volume - I could not stand the layers that were cut in.

Instead of cutting it or dyeing it anything drastic, you may want to try to style it differently. If you put some light -med gel in your bangs, it may stay better - just spray it lightly with some hairspray when you are finished styling it. I do think the best thing for you would be long bangs that are cut at an angle - that would look really good, give you a different look but not change anything too much. Maybe you can start to wear your hair up more - get some magazines like Glamour, Allure and others to see what new hair styles are out and ways to style your hair.

Good luck :o)

my suggestion is to first shape up ur hair by adding more layers, especially around the face...however all around.

Second, i dont think you should listen to these people whotold you to dye it light because its hard to maintain and for a 16 yrs old, a visit to the salon every 6 weeks doesnt seem like a good idea...unless u dont mind spending the money.

For colour i would say get peekaboo highlights in blonde....and keep the rest of ur hair the same colour...
this is a good choice because as the hair grows...u wont be able to see ur roots because it they are underneath....yet the highlights are still visible in a nice subtle way.

Trust me...it will look pretty...and will still be a different look for u ...good luck hun with whatever you choose to do.

I relatively have darkish brown thick hair needless to say. while this is darkish brown it seems healthful, vibrant, and appears like I relatively have much less hair & thinner. Thats basically an phantasm, style of like once you placed on black clothing, you look thinner. when I get particularly blonde highlights throughout, it seems particularly thick, broken, and appears like I relatively have a ton of hair and you will see each and every layer and attitude. a million.) darkish brown skinny hair doesnt look undesirable. 2.) darkish hair wont particularly make your hair look thicker in case you have skinny hair to start with. There are alot of things available to make your hair look greater volumized at the same time with shampoos. additionally determine you're taking a diet common and eat suited nutrition. Your hair gets greater healthy.

First have your hair layered, then get a bunch of blonde highlights making your hair mostly blonde but with brown pieces mixed in, then have some of your hair in the back underneath colored a deep purplish color that will pop out between the blonde highlights.

Did you ever think of adding frosting or streaks around your face..just to get you started?

Later you can add more frosting to more of your hair, after you find the right color.....I think carmel might be awesome, but you have to go and look at all the different carmels ....if you like that idea.
and that's without looking at your pictures.....just from your age and starting to think of a makeover....feminine intuition.

maybe some shorter layers framing your face and have your bangs cut so they fall from one side to the other. get some subtle highlights. you are a very beautiful girl, don't be too drastic.
