I think grades are most affected by bad parents who do not instill good study habits on the children. These are the same parents that blame teachers, blame society, blame everything in the world but themselves. Studying is nothing more than a reflection of work ethic - if parents have none, then they don't foster it in their children, and the kids do badly. That in turn is reflected in an inability to form critical thinking as an adult. I think it has very little to do with location.
Case and point are those people who respond with such defensiveness that their post are totally illogical. Talk about a lack of critical thinking skills. You know who I'm talking about.

It isn't where a student lives rather than How a student lives that affects grades. If a student comes from a two parent home and both parents are actively involved with that student's education then grades will be higher. If
the student comes from a poor single parent who is
actively involved with the students education then grades
will be higher. Grades are low because the student has
one parent who doesn't care about education, doesn't
provide well for the child and is away from the home too much. Bottom line....if a child is raised in love, that child
will succeed.

Girls don't "suck at math". I suggest you rethink that idea, you will get a low grade for the inability to come up with much valid information that it is in any way true.
Years ago, girls would be over looked in math classes and therefore left behind or lagging. Females have the ability to do well in math if given proper direction.
There are different types of learning skills that we all have, if you are only taught one way, you will lose out, male or female.
Why don't you do a project on how much better girls are in verbal and written skills?

First girls don't suck at math ^.^ (I should know) But yes lerning is affected by hme life, if parents are splitting or fighting a lot kids will do poorly, also learning depends on the kids work ethic and want for the future. Just think of it this way if your parents were to get a divorce while you were in school then would'nt you be more woried about that than about your school work?

No lives but by the teacher.
My daughter is a 4.0 student but this year..she failed pre algebra. I met with the teacher and he is an engineer. He teaches as if he is teaching college students and has no personality. Very Dull. (she is in 7th)
I blame it on the teachers. They need to be able to connect with the kids and be able to teach many different ways because no kids in his class are a like or learn a like. This guy is very one way.
Its not where they live its the quality of teachers that are being supplied in the public school system.
