At some time after Jesus lived the Romans changed the name of Israel to Palestine to offend the Israelis and because the Roman leaders of the time were angry that the Israelis would only worship one God. They chose the name Palestine because some Greeks
(white people not Semites or Arabs) had lived in the area called Gaza and were referred to as Philistines. By calling Israel Palestine, they thought to assert their authority in a more aggressive form. They probably murdered at least 2-4 million Israelites who refused to succumb. So for the last couple of thousand years people have continually referred to Israel as Palestine. But of course it is a misnomer. BTW I am not Jewish
but Greek-American. And the people who refer to themselves as Palestinians have no connect with the Philistines. Before 1967 you would never refer to an Arab or Muslim as a Palestinian because it was considered an insult. Rather they were called Southern Turks, Syrians, Egyptians(Arafat was Egyptian) or by what ever country they came from. Present day Palestinians come from over 50 countries of the world. Bethlehem was given over to Arafat and the PLO as a prelude to peace but of course that only gave the terrorist the courage that sought to keep on taking more and more land, and the war goes on even after having been given Gaza. Peace will only come when Israel takes back all the land that was ascribed to them by God over 5000 years ago in the Abrahamic Covenant. Read the story of Abraham in Genesis.
