How did the Reformation affect religious unity and the influence of the Church in the European political affairs?

Something like a thunderstorm. As church and state were often intertwined as Rome took power in an area or the Reformers so would go the political climate. Many violent clashes took place which would unite the various sides to each other. At one time the Pope would have the most power another time the king or emperor. Even as we see the influence today in Muslim and or Christian lands the political climate is quite varied as well as economic and everything else.

The reformation which Luther started by revolting against the papacy screwed everything up and thats when christians started fighting against christians and thats why their are so many differents "christian" denominations". Before this, Europe was in unity with its kings, the emperor, and the Pope. Fighting the true enemies of europe which were the muslim invasions.

Well... that depends on the reformation you are referring to. The Diet of Worms? the reformation of 1812? Personally I prefer the reformation according to smarty pants... the reformation to reasonable thinking. Oh... wait.... that's right....that actually hasn't happened yet...
