First, if your parents don't know about it, you need to confide in them. Also, you DO need a phychologist. They will help you.

I know exactly how you feel and I know that once you start you can't stop. I started cutting myself a few years back because it felt like so much was going on inside that I had to let it all out someway. In the end I stopped myself from doing it by sitting down one day and instead of cutting myself I wrote it all down in a poem. I then went straight to work and cried all through the 8 hour shift. After that I shared what I wrote with people and it helps to know that other people know and also that I am helping them - there are a lot more self-harmers out there than you might think! I've only tried to cut myself once since then but the knife was blunted by the dry blood that I never washed off and so it was fine. I haven't self-harmed for a year and it feels great.
However, i only ever cut myself and never self-harmed before I suffered with depression. It sounds like you are much more involved/dependant on it than I was. Therefore, I think you should really go and see a doctor and a councillor but I just wanted t share my story with you to tell you that you are not alone and that there is hope! Being open about it and not hiding it any more was the turning point for me! However, if you don't think your friends will be supportive/you think they'll worry to much seeing a councillor should do the trick too.
Whatever you do you must do something! And if you don't stop overnight then don't worry about it! You have been self-harming your whole life and it is therefore engrained into your mental processes. It may take a long time to chance your mind!
Good Luck!

Generally, people cut themselves because they have so much pain inside...and it seems no one else notices they need help...that they make it physical so others CAN see. Physical injury gets noticed.
It IS a cry for help. You absolutely must find some therapy. Things really, really are NOT as bad as you are perceiving them. No matter how bad it seems, tell yourself that you're thoughts are lying to you and there is a happy life in store for you...and CALL the suicide hotline if you feel like harming yourself. If you have insurance, most likely it will pay for therapy and if not, there are places that will go by your income. Please, please...get some help because depression is an illness, and it's causing you to do things and think things that are NOT reality.

Please first of all call someone you trust and tell them you are feeling suicidal, it is urgent that you seek help.
Cutting is a way for some people who feel they deserve the pain. It may be due to your past that is causing you to feel the need to cut. This is not normal and you can get the help you need. The very fact you posted this question tells me you want help and are searching for it. Sometimes life can be so incredibly hard that it seems you can not go on another day. You must know that no matter how difficult things are for you right now, time does really help. Some people find help in a church as well as a physician that can give you counseling as well as medications that can help your depression and suicidal thoughts. Cutting can be a form of a cry for help. I urge you to not wait another day, please get the help you need now.

You really need to see a therapist who can help you understand why you do this and to help you stop.
There must be a crisis center in your area you could go to if you really feel very depressed and they will find someone for you.
If you cannot locate a center, you can simply go to the emergency room at any local hospital and just say help.
Your own doctor can help. I hope you have family or friends you can turn to for support. It is to hard to do this alone.
Good luck

Get professional help. I spent my entire life being suicidal and depressed, and never got the help I needed 'till I really messed up and ended up in prison. I can't tell you how much I had just talked to my parents when I was a teenager. It would have been hard, but it would have saved a lot of heartache for myself and those around me.

I had the same problem but i haven't in a long time. I did it to calm my manic phase. Just know you aren't alone. Go to a group if you don't want therapy. It isn't easy but as long as you talk about it and get coping skills you will be too distracted. It's better to cry and call someone or a help line.

you do it to help you emotional pain, not to hurt yourself, but it can get to the point where you do hurt yourself. You must get an appt with a counselor ASAP. You are not crazy but you needs to stop hurting so much and you can with the right help. There are lots of ways we can help. None of them include locking you up in a psychiatric hospital. PLEASE get help. Write me you you want help finding someone good. You have already made a big step and showed you a tough person by asking for help.

u need to tell ur parents if ur a teen. they should seek a psychiatrist for you. you could go to a school couselor if they don't listen or if your not close with ur parents. if your an adult then u need to seek the help of a psychiatrist yourself and take control of your life in a more responsible way.
