I say yes. We need a cleaner energy source capable of replacing fossil fuels in a hurry. Today's third generation plants are far safer than the early pioneering reactors which were themselves very safe as their past record demonstrates. There has never been a serious accident in the West resulting in loss of life. Chernobyl was the result of sloppy Russian safety protocols and a total disregard for the environment. With a World forever demanding increasing amounts of energy nuclear is the only sane option. Human civilisation can't run on sunshine and breezes. Besides, what do the greenies think solar energy is anyway? It's radiation from that giant thermonuclear reactor the Sun. Instead of being afraid of technology we should embrace the nuclear option.

Your most reasonable question to date.

Yes, Australia should build nuclear power plants.
One would imagine that even the greenies would embrace nuclear powerplants. Solar and wind power simply are ineffective and cost prohibitive considering the demand and hydroelectric dams are way too big an impact on our river systems.
Until we find a better technology or seriously reduce our demand, nuclear is by far the best alternative to smog producing, fuel fired power plants

You've already answered your own question but I assume you are still open minded.

Nuclear power plants are by far the most expensive way to generate electricity - indisputable fact

The physics of nuclear energy are not clearly understood - which explains the huge problem of nuclear waste

If the same investment was put in to improving the efficiency of existing technologies there is no doubt that nuclear power would be a redundant technology

The entire history of nuclear energy is filled with corruption, false accounting, politics and blatant untruths.

The sun generates heat and light without polluting our Earth. The nuclear industry cannot and will not guarantee the future of our planet. We, the people are its stewards. No nuclear plants is the safest and most logical future.

Yes, I see no reason why Australia should not have more nuclear power plants. At least, until the price of solar cells drops dramatically. (Oz has plenty of open space in which to put the cells it would need.)

Spent fuel elements do not stay radioactive forever; in 600 years, they are no more radioactive than the ore from which they were processed, and if it were not for breeder reactors which generate plutonium, we would have to reprocess the wastes to be sure we did not run out of fuel.

I'm generally in favor of building nuclear reactors, with the exception of certain nations run by certifiable lunatics (N. Korea) who starve their citizens and want to be able to threaten other nations into feeding them so that they will not have to 'lose face'; and with the exception of certain Middle-Eastern nations run by fanatics devoted to a mythological prophet (Iran) who are so oil rich that it makes any sensible person laugh when they claim that they want nuclear power for electricity, expecially when they have said repeatedly that Israel should be wiped out and that they want to be the ones to do it.

I think that Japan should be given nukes for their self-defense forces, and then let Kim Il Jong try to bluster them into giving them up! I think Israel will soon take preemptive steps to be sure that Iran will never use a nuke on them. And I think that it would be a good idea for Australia to join the club, since they are sensible and sane people who would only use them for self defense.

Afraid of technology? I'm not afraid of actual technology but the human mind behind it-we are capable of mistakes and hatred so great someone in power some day may be willing to start a nuclear war. And yes, actually it is possible for us to use energy from sunshine and the wind. But if you want to hug a bomb I won't try to stop you!

put more research into other possibilities,,,,,,,,we still have an issue and problems with radioactive waste no places left to storage
