A boy never wants to be found out about his secret adornment. You put a stop to it. Your body language sent the wrong message and told him to stop and that you didn't see him the same way that he might see you. If he likes you, then he may still like you, he'll take steps back in his process of getting it out to you. If he just stared at you, then it might be that he wants to be your friend or that he has something to say and just doesn't know how to tell you. Go up to him and see what's up.

why dont you stop staring at him and see what he does . my guess is the boy is shy and doesnt know what to do now that your looking back. and if that is the case then go up to him and say hi start off slow so you dont scare him off. shy guys dont know how they are suppose to act so you can take the first move if you want and if you even like the guy, you didnt really say if you liked him or not.

He is probably embarrassed that he got caught. Wait until he is alone and start a little conversation with him. If he really likes you will know by the end of the conversation. Check to see if he is blushing or fiddling with something or can't get his words out properly.
