make sure that she is getting good nutritional food etc; puppy food can be fed to her after she has the pups since that is when she will be lactating and will need more calories at that time; overweight is a concern b/c it could make her labor more difficult. Some dogs will not even look pregnant; just make sure that you are feeding her appropriately ; have fresh water etc. Weight reduction shouldn't be key now that she is expecting ; she needs the nutrients for the pups. Some moms you have to drag them away from the pups to eat etc after they have them. Good Luck

Your vet is giving you confusing information. If your dog is pregnant, she should be gaining weight because of the puppies. You do not want to put her on a diet while she is pregnant. She should be eating a good quality puppy food. Did he do an ultrasound to make sure she is pregnant? When are the puppies due? It is possible that she is having a faqlse pregnancy. You might want to check with another vet.

Put her on a tight feeding schedual. Research the number of calories a dog her size and type should have each day and give her that amount of food, no more. Also consider how active she is. Very active = more food, Inactive = less food. However, I would be careful about puting her on a diet without checking to see how much food she will need to have a healthy preganancy. Mama dogs will often put on some pounds while pregnant.

for information about canine pregnancy visit a website: www.veterinarypartner.com. This site explains things in layman's terms and makes things easier to do and understand. Your dog needs a good quality diet and depending on her current due date that could mean puppy food not adult dog food but there are factors that play into this so check out www.veterinarypartner.com and look up canine pregnancy.
Good luck!

Any dofg that is carrying pups will gain weight and wouldn't suggest ptting her on a diet,as she isn't going to eat anymore than what she wants at one time.God gives them enough knowledge to know they are carrying pups that need the extra nutrition.Just fed her a good brand of food with lots of protien.

You just need to make sure is gaining weight from being pregnant and not just getting fat... she needs a good quality food, with essential fatty acids and vitamins/minerals. continue this after the puppies are born so momma will be strong enough to nurse and care for her pups.
