One needs to check the Statue of limitations in their state. The negatives will be on your report for 7 years.
However, the Statue of limitations is 2 to 5 years depending on your state. If someone sues one for a debt that is past the date of last payment by the SOL, then the defense in court is --SOL has expired. The judge will throw it out most likely. It is illegal to sue after the SOL date.

Yes, but it will take some time. Start buying paying down some of your recent open debt so that it is below 30%. You can dispute some inquiries if they are inaccurate, but each inquiry is only about 5 points if you have a healthy credit report (it will worth a little bit more for you). I would be more worried with the deliquent accounts since they show on your report for 7 yrs though instead of inquiries which only stay on for 2 yrs.

Here is the honest thing to do. Pay your bills on time, keep a low balance on your credit cards (or as low as possible, avoid using them). Inquiries will hurt your credit for the short term. They fall off in two years, and generally will not hurt you after 6 months (they will a little). Any derogatory info will fall off in 5-10 years (usually 7 years). If you have any collections, pay them off. Or at least call up the collection agency and see about settling for a smaller amount. They may agree to accept a 60% payment and report it as being paid off.
The dishonest thing to do, dispute correct information on your credit. The creditors have 30 days to respond, otherwise you win the dispute. Many banks will not bother if you are no longer their customer. It is just work for them, and they don't make any money defending themselves.

well everytime you apply for something(credit card, any type of loan) that shows up as an inquiry. if you are applying for lots of credit cards, that will bring down your credit score.
the best thing you can do, is tackle the debts one at a time, make minimum payments on all but one at a time, concentrating on paying each off starting with the smallest first by making extra payments on it. when the first one is paid off, then tackle the next, and so on and so on.....
or you can file bankruptcy....but that won't help your credit, only eliminate SOME of your debt.
try debt counseling and listen to clark howard and dave ramsey.
i do, and i pay extra on EVERYTHING, i'm 9 years into my home loan, and i've only had it a year!!!!
anything is possible.....you can do it!!
