1) Eat at least 5 servings of different fruits and vegetables every day. Don't eat any junk/snack type food until you've had at least 5 fruits/vegetables.
2) Stick to whole, unprocessed foods such as whole grains, beans, fruits, vegetables, nuts. As much as you can, try to eat foods that don't have a brand name! So, for example, eat oatmeal (you can buy oats in the bulk bin of most grocery stores) instead of Honey Bunches of Oats.
3) Eliminate partially hydrogenated oil and high-fructose corn syrup completely.
4) Drink water instead of soda. If you really want juice, make it a nutritious juice, such as orange juice. Apple and grape juices have very little in the way of nutrients.
5) Minimize animal products, especially fatty ones, as much as possible.

Here are a couple favorites of mine because they are great "starting" tips - you don't even need to eat less for these ones! - Just eat healthier:
- Stop eating White anything:
- White sugar, white pasta, white rice, white flour - You are now a whole wheat person. You'll get used to it really fast I promise. There, - whole wheat: Go.
- If you are drinking 1 or 2 % milk, start drinking skim.
- Eat fruit instead of drinking fruit juice.

1. Drink at least 8 glasses of water, herbal tea or unsweetened juice each day
2. Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper
3. Eat every two hours, by having healthy snacks in between meals. Eating frequently increases your metabolism.
4. Eat lots of fruit and veg.
5. When having potatoes, rice or pasta, just have a small portion.

1. Eat in moderation. Sweets, salty things, and fatty foods are fine if you're not eating them all the time. It's ok to indulge every so often. "Depriving" oneself of what they love by eliminating it altogether typically results in the person "cheating" on any healthy eating regiment they have and it winds up becoming a chore rather than a way of living.
2. Keep fresh fruit and/or veggies cut up in pieces so when you're craving for a snack, those will be ready for you (you'll be more likely to grab a healthy snack if it's ready to go)
3. Switch to whole grain foods such as whole grrain bread and pasta. Avoid labels such as "multi-grain" which is very different than "whole grain." Whole grain foods can lower the risk of heart disease, certain types of cancer, and type 2 diabetes.
4. Eat breakfast!! Never skip this meal as it gets your metabolism going for the day. On that note, never skip any meal as you're likely to eat more than you should at your next meal.
5. If you're a meat eater, make sure you eat plenty of fish and poultry which are much leaner than red meat. Red meat is ok, but on a daily basis it can be bad for your health. But keep your poultry and fish either baked, grilled, or broiled. Fried food defeats the purpose of eating leaner meat, although indulging in fried every once in awhile is not going to harm you. For vegetarians, make sure to eat plenty of nuts/legumes to make up for the nutrients that meat provides.
