Outside of their regularly scheduled routine, which we imagine probably includes meditating or praying, household chores like laundry, cooking, gardening, do monks (any tradition: christian, buddhist) have a lot of free time left over for dog training, beer making, and things like that? I have a bet with a friend.

I stayed at a siddha yoga center for a while and the Monks there were busy most of the time teaching or studying Scripture, they had free time of course,i would see them laughing,talking with others,playing games with the children and a couple of dogs. they also had various supervisory duties. NO beer,vegan diet. NOT interested in tv or movies.

'free time' is an illusion. I am a monk, and time is an illusion grasshopper. As for dog training, beer making and things like that, I train my dog by enticing him with my home made brewski. Come on over sometime and we'll drink and watch my drunk mutt and make jokes about Buddha's fat belly.
