He knows where the doggy door is. His litter is outside by the stairs. I get him there . He knows how to jump back into it leads him through the kitchen. But he has no clue yet, when to go tinckle by himself. When can I expect him to be independent?

1. After he eats, take him to the litterbox. A few times should do the trick.

In order for your cat to use the litter-box,the box has to be cleaned EVERY day ....yes even if it is outside! The box has to be in a protected and dry area.
If rain or wind or other animals have access to it , it just will not work. Your kitty is really old enough to go there by it self. Good luck;Es

At nine weeks he should going by himself. When I brought my 3 kittens home at 8 weeks old..they used the litter box the first and every time.

I have never heard of anyone training a cat to use the litter box. They always figure it out on their own.

he should be going in his litter box by now.the mother cat usually trains them after nursing is coming to an end you might have to put his nose in it a few times before he stops after you do that then place him in the litter box

Just be patient. Keep putting him in the litter box; he'll figure it out. Cats like to bury their feces instinctively. He'll start using it eventually.
