Keep both. Tell them taht you want both and that they have to accept that fact that you won't be exclusively one's best friend. If they won't accept you under these conditions, are they friends at all?

If you choose one then you are just not a good friend, that shows really bad character. Tell them you aren't choosing and that's that, you find different great qualities in both of them.
p.s. I have 5 best friends and I wouldn't say one is better than the other, they are all my BEST friends cause they are so different and they appeal to different sides of me. Are you only one dimensional or are you interesting enough to deserve more than one best friend? Do you really think that just one person can "nurture" your friendship needs completely? I have too many depths to my personality to be able to say that one person can fulfill them all.

try to play with both of them. but if that doesn't work then pick between first friend or sporty friend.
