Don't worry, it's a short read:

I don’t believe you’ll find a specific reference to pedophilia in the Bible. But there also aren’t any references to holding someone hostage, price fixing or slamming a planes into buildings. At that time, homosexuality, bestiality and extramarital sex WERE happening in the nations around Israel, often in idol worship. I think the reason it’s absent isn’t because it is okay, but because it wasn’t really happening then. Yes, there may have been a bit of it going on it Greece, but wasn’t wide spread like today. It should be apparent to anyone that today’s culture is far more depraved than even 100 years ago. Think about how thick the Bible would have to be in order to cover everything the Jews shouldn’t do back then AND everything we shouldn’t be doing now. Then there is the whole “tell-them-not-to-do-it-and they-will-want-to-try-it" reasoning that most parents have encountered. God gave 10 general commandments that cover most everything, then got specific with certain acts, probably because the Jews could see it going on around about them. Pedophilia is covered under the no-sex-without-marriage portions of these commandments. Good luck on your argument.

The sentiment is echoed all through the answers - but you don't need religion to tell you that. If you do... woe be to you and those you come in contact with every day.

Pedophilia hurts children and that is a proven fact in study after study after study. It causes deep emotional scars that last a lifetime, and can even cause the cycle of abuse to continue. People who touch children to sate their own demented and sick desires honestly should be put to death without question. Children are absolutely the shrines of innocence until the time comes when they discover their bodies and continue the life cycle of humanity. When that small period of time is taken from them, adulthood turns into something unstable in a variety of ways.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I can see you might be asking why these officials in the church are able to abuse children and still they are permitted to remain in the church. You might be asking why people that claim to believe in Buddah can participate in child prostitution rings. Or even why people that revere all as sacred can pay to have sex with a child - male or female - because they are innocent and "tight". My answer - these are the people that do not believe in what they claim to believe in. These are the people that are sick and have problems. These are not representative of the majority of people on this planet regarding children and sexuality.

Granted, there are cultures that still marry children of 12 and 13 years of age - but even in those cultures, and even though they are married, these children still continue to live with the families and are forbidden from sexual contact until they are older. Marriage being a way for joining families and gaining money. In tribal communities, there are still rules regarding sexuality and the way it must be handled. No matter how ancient it may seem, I haven't read of tribal communities handing an 8-year-old to an adult for sexual relations.

My advice to you is this... non-biblical, non-religious morality. You do not need a book to tell you what is wrong, and you do not need to believe that sick people are the representatives of a major religion. The majority of these bastards that end up in prison as it is claim to have found Jesus while they're there and go right back out to do whatever they do again. They may even have a Jesus tattoo... it doesn't mean they are poster children for Christianity... it means they still, no matter what, can't follow what teachings they have been given. They are ignorant of not only what they claim to know, but of the pain and suffering they cause.

I doubt that pedophilia was wrong back then since people probably died at 30 and were married by 12.

It is a societal rule.

In the U.S. sex with a minor is considered Statutory Rape because it was not a Common Law. In other words, the U.S. laws are based on precedents of English law. Rape is considered a Common Law, but sex with a minor was not covered by the Common Law. So each state was able to enact it's own laws (statutes) on this subject, hence the name Statutory Rape.

It depends on your definition. Back in the day kids used to get married alot younger. Heck, the bible says it was ok that Adam and Eve's children had sex and their own children even though they were related! Don't rely on any religion for a moral compass.

Mary is assumed to have been between the ages of twelve-fifteen when she was covered by the spirit of god in order to give a virgin birth. So Yahweh is a pedophile, therefore it won't preach against it.

I know it's disgusting. I don't worry about the Bible's opinion on anything, anyway.

I don't think you should need written confirmation that it is wrong. Religion does not enter into it.
