They have super good noses and if they sniff drugs all day, won't they get high?

No. LOL. When a narc dog indicates on drugs it doesn't think it's looking for drugs. Instead it thinks it's looking for it's favorite toy. All the dog's motivation is, is it's desire to play. It associstes the scent of the drugs with its toy. People think that when a narc dog is being trained for drug detection work that we are either feeding the drugs to the dog or that we get the dog high on the drugs. NO! NO! NO! We use a powder called "Sudo" Not available to the general public" that simulates certain cemicals odors that are present in certain types of narcotics The dog is played with by the by handler with these diferent powders on his toy which causes the dog to acciate these odors with his toy. i.e Marijuana, Cocain, Heroin, Meth, These dogs when being trained and when on the job hardly ever get in direct contact with the actual nacotics. That would be very harmfull or even fatal for the dog if the dog was to injest any of the drugs The dogs are trained to exibit 1 of 2 certain types of behavior when they have located an odor. One being either an active indication( Scratching or pawing) the other being a passive indication where they will promply sit and stare at the location the odor is coming from. Bomb dogs are usually tought in this passive indication. Reason? You don't want the dog to scratch at a bomb. One of the reason we train the dogs to passive indicate on drugs is to help preserve the scene. By scratching at the location the dog can cause damage. As soon as the dog shows an indication of narcotics odor the toy is tossed to the dog. This is what the dog is expecting to happen as sonn as he indicates. So there is really no contact between the dog and the actual drugs because now he has his toy and that is what he thinks he was looking for in the first place. Dogs noses work very different from humans. Best way I can expain this is, when you smell beef stew what do you smell? Beef stew right? A dog smelles the salt, pepper,carrots,potatoes,beef. ect. Thats why they can locate the individual cemicals odor that they have been trained on that is located in the drugs. Does that answer your question ?

Because they don't sniff drugs all day...They sniff for drugs, which is completely different.
They smell the residual odors coming off the drugs. The drugs are usually still in whatever packets the dealers put them in, and never make contact with the dog.

They don't actually consume the drugs, they just locate them. The dogs rarely ever get close enough to the drugs to touch them. And if they do the handler should be fired.

There never replaced into any drug canines at my college. human beings smoked weed in college now and back and that i'll confess now and back I did yet I stored maximum of my weed for after college so i does no longer be petrified of being caught in college. no person ever particularly drank in college. this is style of stupid IMO.

First off, they don't consume the drugs.
That line of thinking means if you smell a glass of whiskey you get drunk... just doesn't work like that.
Second, their handlers carry chemicals to counteract the drugs if they do ingest some.

I think it's because of the scent not the fact that your Shotgunning weed into the dogs mouth...you know? it's like you can smeel someone that's just come in from Blazing it right?

My guess is because they are just sniffing out the drugs they are not actually inhaling the drugs. So it doesn't enter their systems

r u sure their not getting high??just cuz their not rollin on the floor laughin thier lil tails off dont mean their not high ... if u notice certain people do certain things when their high,,,some laugh,,some cry,,some fall,,some just sit thier like a bump on a log..so their might be getting high u just cant tell..................and if they aint getting high then i feel bad for them poor dogs....lol...doin all that sniffin 4 nothin

Maybe they do. Have you ever seen a dog that was NOT high? Great work if you can get it.
