Sin comes about as a result of being or acting immoral. Mortal sins are Catholic Doctrine which consider 7 specific sins to be deadly to your soul, or unforgiveable as it were.

All sin is immoral, but not all sin is mortal, that is, spiritually deadly. This is explained in 1 John 5:16-17.

With respect to the contributor following me ... there are indeed seven "capital sins" identified by the Catholic Church, but these are not synonymous with mortal sin, nor are they the only sins that can be mortal. The seven capital sins are just sins that form the basis for most other sin, things like pride, lust and greed. Also, mortal sins are forgiveable through the sacrament of reconciliation, otherwise known as sacramental confession.
