I have been bipolar for 30 something years. My symptoms were manic times, followed by days of depression. Then it would start all over again. When manic I could not sleep for days. Then I would become totally depressed and sleep constantly for days. When I was manic everything was perfect to me. When depressed I hated everything.

Well, the biggest symtom is the major mood swings... going from a depressed state to a manic state, one of no energy to one of excess energy... one of sadness to one of unexplained 'happiness'.
