Kindergarten teacher. It's less of a risk, less head aches, and you will have benefits.

It depends on what you really want to do. Working as a kindergarten teacher is going to give you hands on teaching time and you're going to be mainly focused on the teaching aspect of the job. If you're running/owning a preschool you could also be working in a classroom and interacting with the kids but it's not going to be the main priority. You'll have to deal with all the "dirty work" that comes along with owning a business; bills, employees, parents (*happy and unhappy*), logistics of how you run your preschool, the list goes on and on.

Personally, I would pick the kindergarten teacher it's just something that would be more appealing to me. However that is just my thought :)

I think that you would have to decide what you are really wanting to do more--and also how much time it will take you to get to either position. Perhaps one can be tackled now and another can be tackled later in life if they are both things that you have your heart set on doing.

First of all when you get a degree in teaching young children you usually are eligible to teach Kindergarten - 6 Th Grade. If there is not an opening in that school for a kindergarten teacher but you like the school you might have to teach another grade there until an opening comes up. Personally I think 1st grade is more fun than kindergarten so don't rule it out. You would of course have benefits in a public school setting. If you have your own Pre-school it could be a lot of fun and very rewarding but health benefits are very costly. You would also have a lot of extra responsibilities owning your own business which would of course have to be registered with the state and periodically checked in on. It all depends on what you want.

Well the 2 are totally different jobs. Owning your own center can come with lots of work. Getting it up and running, being a manager, be willing to work as a teacher when someone calls in sick, dealing with the state, not only be good with kids, but also office type of work. There is a lot of paperwork involved in owning your own center. It takes awhile to get things running smoothly enough to not have to be there everyday hand holding your staff. It is not easy. Kindergarten Teacher is a little less stress. It is all in what you want to do in the future. Work for yourself or work for someone else.

Money wise owning a preschool is way more beneficial. The problem with that is all of the risks of being the owner. Like 65% of all preschools close down within the first five years, so you would be taking a chance. Just make sure you hire good workers and thoroughly look into their past. Good Luck with whatever you choose!!

The best of both world would be to get the bachelor's degree in education with an endorsement in early childhood education (pk-3rd grade) and then take extra certification required by your state to run a daycare. Then you can open a private pre-k, k and first grade.

I really wish that is what I had done instead of just relying on state employment and NO control over curriculum or student enrollment.

definitalley being a kindergarden teacher. This is good because you can send bad kids to an office, as with ownig your own preschool you can't do this...also you get paid for the first one.

I have done both.

I may teach kindergarten, again, or pre-k, in a public school. I doubt I will own/operate another daycare/preschool.
