You have to pay the amount owed. Otherwise they belong to the person they were issued to so they have proof if they have to take further action.

If they give you a notice by mail and the merchant still has them it is cheaper to pay it to the merchant and pay the charges then to wait and it go to the DA and then you are usually charged 150 extra dollars per check. SO a $30 check can cost you $90 if you get it from the merchant or it can cost you $240 from the DA plus jail time if not picked up fast enough...Contact the stores asap... work something with them out.

Good luck!!

pay them??? but that can get expensive, as the bank charges a nsf (non sufficient funds) fee, usually $25-35. and whoever she wrote the checks to does the same. so each bad check can cost $50-70 plus whatever the amount is.....are you that wealthy????

perhaps take away mom's checkbook.....

try and pay them asap, and close your mom's checking account. I got arrested for bouncing checks it was a 30.00 check by the time everything was over with I had to pay court costs, victim's fees, lawyer fees, plus the cost of the check that 30.00 turned into almost 300.00 plus I was on probation for a year. It wasn't fun.

Go to the place that your mom bounced the checks at. Bring cash for the amount due and bounced check fee. Make sure they give you the check back.

What do you mean "pick them up"? Do you mean pay them? Are you trying to pay them without her knowing?

You'll probably have to pay the bank charge as well.
