Authentic Absinthe is no more addictive than any other alcoholic beverage.
It is also a myth that it makes you trip or hallucinate.
It is very strong is not intended to be drunk neat. It should be diluted with 3 - 5 parts ice water poured aver a sugar cube.

It is just another alcoholic drink. It is exactly as addictive as any other alcoholic drink of the same proof and though it can be strong, not all are. There are common misconceptions (that many people and governments have had) that led to it's legal status. If you live in the U.S. you can buy it from overseas and have it delivered to you and when it gets to you, it can't be taken away as it isn't a controlled substance but it can be confiscated at customs (no big deal and most legit companies offer insurance for that). Overall, I'll give it a thumbs up I suppose but it is too expensive for me. Also watch out for the fake stuff and it doesn't make you "trip" in any way whatsoever.

It isn't addictive (no more so than any other alcohol, any way) but absinthe does your head in PERMANENTLY. It was banned in France and Belgium well before the First World War for that very reason. It's why the likes of Van Gogh and Co. were as mad as hatters.
It was never banned in Britian because nobody drank the stuff and I was amazed to see it on sale in Tesco. I don't know if it's the same vicious stuff but it is best left well alone.
The danger is that it will appeal to our idiotic, immature younger generation. Spend a night out on that stuff and the first drink of water you have in the morning - tea, juice or brushing your teeth - and you will be out of your brain again. I can see that appealing to the gutter lodgers.

Absinthe is a mixture of alcohol and herbs, it is very bitter if not mixed with something sweet. It does not taste good. It is 50 to 70% alcohol (mostly 136 proof) and is extremely addictive. (Thumbs down).

It's absolutely vile, too revolting to be addictive surely! But the buzz it gives you is good! Imagine the most disgusting tasting medicine you can imagine and times it by 100!! I serve it in tiny liqueur glasses with an ice cube - it looks like a strange oily witches brew - bizarre. If you give everyone a shot of it at 3am you'll all still be raving at 7am. It's fab xxx

Experienced absinthe in Prague whilst on a stag do and it got everybody absolutely wasted but we had a great time.I reckon it's just like anything alcoholic in the sense that too much of it is bad though, apparently it's what Van Gogh was drunk on when he lopped off his ear.

Never enjoyed drinking it neat or with water but we did find a bloody good method of ingesting the nasty stuff-
1 jug of vodka redbull
4 Absinthe depth charges dropped gently into the jug
Drink with straws and enjoy!
Pocheen on the other hand..........

The myths around absinthe are like those surrounding mescal...
it's just bloody strong (though the wormwood probably won't do you any good).
