It's very interesting to read (yet again!) comments saying that the English are the problem, whilst conversley no English people appear to have blamed the Scots, Irish or Welsh in this thread.
So, the hatred looks to be very much one-way, with the one nation not actually expressing any prejudice or hate toward their neighbours being the ones continually accused of being the problem?! Go figure!
It's a shame we don't have moderators on this board, because I'm sick of the racism from other home nations, and constantly being told we English are 'parochial' 'unfriendly' 'have a supeririority complex' etc. You're the ones always saying it - not us - and those stupid generalisations makes you prejudiced and racist !

. . . 600,000 eastern europeans love you:
The home nations are the Scots, Irish, Welsh, English -
The Irish don't know who they are, the British in the six counties of Ulster, then the Free State, and on and on - the Republicans are more interested in opening wine bars in Dublin, the cost of travel to England for abortions and alarmed at the decline in the Euro and their high levels of taxation with a dodgy tea-shop/tee-shot or whatever, no different to the last one, Hickey, Hockey, Hawkey whoever, deep pockets being the common strait -
The Welsh, good as gold - ask any sheep -
Scots, no problem - admittedly there was some concern with Mel Gibson's recent Christ movie, cruxifiction en-masse may well create a health problem, however Braveheart with the blue make-up and skirts remained popular.
And that's it -
Apart from the English - basically non-existant as a national identity, considered "British". Government immigration and emmigration statistics show exodus of English.

Bigotry and ignorance.
I'm Welsh and I don't hate English people.
The ones who do will go on about::
"oh but they invaded us"
(not they didn't that was the Normans who were French)
"They banned the Welsh language"
(that was done in Schools to ensure the kids learned to speak English as at that time - 19th Century - you needed English to travel or do anything with your life outside your little village. They could speak all the Welsh they liked outside school, but they needed to have a good grasp of English as well.)
"They buy holiday homes in N Wales"
(sorry I'm South Walian, don't bother me. Blame the locals who SELL them the holiday homes in the first place.)
"They exploited the coal miners"
(no that was done by greedy businessmen it didn't matter whether thery were Welsh or English)
"They are arrogant beer swilling chavs"
(not all of them and Wales has more than its fair share - try walking through Caerphilly on a Saturday night, more chavs than you can shake a stick at).
My BF's English (from Kent) and he's lovely, so are his family. It upsets me when some bigotted Welsh Nationalist type starts spouting at him to "get out of Wales". He doesn't really like it here but stays here for me - as I am too much of a coward to move away. I have lived in Kent though and the people are lovely - noone down there was EVER "racist" or nasty to me for being Welsh, they loved my accent and were always really interested in Wales.
Most of those who claim they "hate the English" are ignorant and haven't been out of Wales enough to meet many English people.
As for the Scots and Northern Irish, well thats up to them, I know a few Scots and Northern Irish (Catholic and Protestant) who aren't like that at all - they are really nice, funny people who take everyone as they find them and never spout hatred or bigotry.
Its just a sad fact that those who do have this sort of bigotted chip on their shoulder shout the loudest and make themselves the most noticeable.
BTW my family supports Wales usually in the world cup but if its England and another country they'll support England - much sooner see England win than Yanks or Germans etc
Not like my biggotted stupid next door neighbours who when England played Portugal they put up a Portguese flag in their window just to offend my BF . . .
Twats. No wonder the son still lives at home with his mum..

I'm reading a book at the mo' called "The English" by Jeremy Paxman, which deals with this issue to some extent.
Basically Scotland/Wales/N.Ireland have a national identity and culture which is constantly at risk of being swamped by that of a more populous, prosperous and powerful neighbour (and already has been in a political sense). The English don't return the hatred of the other nations as they've no fear of being over-shadowed by them.

nicely, Jerry First I counted the plain cons & libs in accordance with this their solutions in basic terms. i did no longer count selection those I already knew to be one or the different. Then I counted the slurs. needless to say, many i could no longer needless to say placed into any type. the outcomes are: Cons: of three counted, 2 used slurs Libs: of two counted, a million used slurs. there have been 2 slurs that ought to no longer remember as the two camp for effective. the single that noted as you out approximately rather being an American i did no longer count selection as a slur. yet in one in each and every of your previous questions, you pronounced you have been an American.. That makes you a liar, which isn't a slur considering the fact which you proved your self to be one. sparkling up your act..

My experience has been that most people don't hate anyone. I'm a geordie (find that on your map), and I have Scotts, Irish and Welsh friends. I have some disdain for the southern English because they have a lesser form of the US parochialism, but even that is reserved for the ignorant.
Hatred is too dangerous, it gets people killed, fortunately emotional people are more likely to get themselves killed, so I don't worry about the haters because I know they will make mistakes and end up losing. Nobody loves someone who is full of hate.

Im Scottish and never had a problem with anyone English until i made a couple of trips to Manchester and London and unfortunately found the people to be very rude and unhelpful, but the cheeky comments i recieved when hearing my accent has now shown me why the Scottish dont bother with the English. Scotland and Northern Ireland are very close, we're both very friendly and sociable countries to visit (that could be something to do with our alcohol consumption lol) We're very good with tourists, its only ourselves we fight amongst lol...Bonnie Scotland !!!!

As an Ulsterman, I think it's largely down to one common factor - the English! Over many years they have subjugated their neighbours to the point that hatred is natural - look at your historyand the English involvement in it. That is not to say that I hate all English people, I don't - my wife is English and my son was born in East London which also makes him English, so I love them both. I also get on with my neighbours and English people generally. I think th real problem lies not with the English as a race (whatever that may be) but in English politicians who serve only themselves. As Billy Connolly once said, the very desire to become a politician should bar you from ever becoming one in the first place...
