Oh man, I'm so sorry you're going through this! I could tell you that it will make you stronger some day, but the problem is what to do about it now, right?

Why people do this... lots of reasons. Some people are insecure. They don't feel that they amount to much, so if they can make someone else feel smaller, they feel larger in comparison (it's not true, but they don't know that).

Some people are scared. They see someone who is poor, and they fear being poor (lots of people are a paycheck or a serious family illness away from being poor), so they like to pretend that people who are poor are somehow different, and inferior, because that means they themselves will never be poor (again, not true, but it comforts them to believe it).

Some people are just plain ignorant and immature.

Here's the thing - you are here now, so it's up to you what happens next. Try thinking not about now, which kind of stinks, but about your future. What do you want for yourself and your family?

Now is a good time for you to try as many different things as you can. Your goal is to find out what really interests you, what you might want to do with your life. In the meantime, you build skills - you work on your English, study hard. Why? If you work hard at your school work, you might be able to land a scholarship to go to college, and even if you don't, you'll still be able to get a better job.

Let's say you don't get a scholarship, but you work on your English skills and your typing. You get an entry level job in an office, typing and filing. Not exciting, maybe, but... you can take classes at community college at night.

That's the thing - you focus now on the future, make plans, try new things, and remember that most of the people making fun of you aren't doing those things, and in a few years, you'll be far ahead of them, doing things you love, living a life you enjoy. At that point, what they're saying about you now won't even matter to you any more.

Someone once said, "The best revenge is a life well lived." Good luck!

Because some people feel good only when they belittle other people. But you just hold your head up high. There are good people, and immature low-esteemed people. You can spot a person with low self-esteem. They're trying to take off the attention off of themselves and point fingers at others. It's not where you buy your clothes, but how you wear and accessorize your clothing. Try looking at fahion magazines, and reading fashion tips. T.J. Maxx and Payless do have nice items. Don't tell people where you buy your clothes. Believe it or not I've seen some of the items in smaller department stores in more expensive larger stores. If you buy sneakers at Payless try buying sneakers that don't have a name. The only way people can pick out a cheaper sneaker is by the name. When you're in High School and Junior High it's better to wear a no name shoe than one with a cheaper name. Then people will try to figure you out. Just remember hold your head up, and don't let anyone steal your joy. I just had an imbesol named Grand Wizard answer one of my questions. But when you're God's child no one can steal your worth, or put a label on you. And remember "No weapon that is formed shall prosper!" Words can build up or tear down. "Be in courage!" No one can take away your beauty, and beauty is in the spirit.

People can be really mean and insensitive. It gives them a sense of false self confidence. If your in high school, they are at the age when name brand clothing, and where you shop is a type of "status". People take for granted what they have, and have no clear understanding about what others are going through, nor do they care. It's going to be rough for you right now, but don't let them get the best of you ( i know it's easier said than done), instead take advantage of all the oppertunities that are available to you. A good education is what will seperate you from these mean people. Just strive to be the best at your academics (this will help you and your family get out of being poor in the future).. You are not alone in your situation. Takle care and god bless.

I shop at TJMaxx, and Payless, and Ross, and Wallie World, and Target. There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying from there. The people making fun of you are ignorant and have not been taught at home how to accept new cultures. Stay strong and as a crappy as I feel to say this, b/c it is nothing someone in your position wants to hear....try not to let it get to you. Good luck friend from Guatemala!!!! K

Don't worry about that. You can find cute clothes from tjmax and payless. Don't worry about how much it costs but how it looks, but even that's not too important because at least you have clothes on your back. Kids can be rude because you are different, just remember to stay true to yourself because people will always talk about you (even if you were rich) so you might as well ignore them. Good Luck and Keep your head up! You have nothing to be ashamed of.

First, I am so sorry that this is happening to you!!
Kids can be so cruel, and especially when someone is different from themselves. You must learn to overlook their prejudices and lift your head high and strive to be the best person that you can be. Your parents were very strong and brave to come to a new country and try and make a better life for themselves and their child. You must make them proud...of their decision and of your progress and achievements. Clothes are just a thing;as are shoes.....they do not the person make. It is what is underneath those things that makes the real person.
Don't ever be ashamed of who you are or where you came from!! Your parents and grandparents fought hard to get to where they are and able to get you to where you are.
Be proud that your mother can cook rice....and that your father can work...there are probably alot of kids at your school whose parents are on welfare and whose mother can't even boil water!
Stand proud....be proud....live proud!!!!!

They do it because they're mean and in school still. For some reason school kids like to be that way. Yes, you still get it in the adult world, but not as bad (at least I don't think so). You just keep being yourself. You can't help if your parents wanted to better your life. Do the best you can and that will be good enough. I know it's hard in school because all you want to do is fit in, but it's not always about that. Just be yourself and enjoy life. Don't let them get to you!!

Don't feel bad. Thay are just mean kids. Don't worry about it, ok. Not everyone has the nicest things. I got my clothes from TJ maxx when I was growing up too. Not everyone has a lot of money. Just ignore them and find some good friends.

They have no right to talk to u like that.I can tell u this I am from the U.S and my son got his clothes from the good will and he was never teased. So they are teaseing u because of your race and that is very wrong and u need to let the school know. Don't put up with it and tell someone about.Good luck
