i've heard all my life that cats use these whiskers to tell them more about the environment they're in. one person told me that in addition to telling the cat more about its environment, the whiskers also act as a kind of radar to protect the eyes. if something touches or hits the whiskers the cat will blink---i've never tried this, but it sounds good.

and when i was a kid and didn't know any better i cut my cat's whiskers off. she didn't bleed to death---nor was she clumsy. i don't know if it affected her hunting skills any---she didn't seem to lose any weight till the whiskers grew back.

Yes, cats need whiskers.

If a cat didn't have whiskers, they would not know what they can fit in. For example, if a cat got it's whiskers cut off, and it looked at a hole in the wall that was very small, they could think that they can fit into the hole.

Whiskers are just like another sense.

they help the cats with balance and to "see" in the dark. I remember when i was a kid i cut our cats whiskers off and for about 3 weeks he kept running into things. so anyways the whiskers are kind of for feeling whats around them. this wasnt worded the greatest but hopefully u get the idea

Cats use whiskers as a sensing tool. Overweight cats have longer whiskers...I figure to keep them from getting stuck, like Winnie the Pooh!

YES! Whiskers are very important for a cat. That's how they gage if they can fit through things. They are also sensors. Removing their whiskers would be like removing a set of eyes.

whiskers help to tell a cat if it can fit into a small place. without whiskers cats would get stuck all the time in places too small for them

Aside from guiding cats around, whiskers do help a cat balance. They also grow to the actual width of the cat, so the cat can tell if they'll fit through some tight spots (e.g. tiny doors, windows opened a tiny bit, etc.)

cats whiskers do serve a purpose.they feel when they brush against something so they don't run into it or the whiskers brush against any type of small hole they try to fit in.
warning!!!DO NOT CUT THE WHISKERS OFF!!!
it you cut the wikers off the cats blood will go through the wiskers and they won't heal so thell bleed to death :(
im suprised people on here are saying that they cut their cats whiskes off!

Cats whiskers are their main sense of balance, and it helps them walk on high things without falling. Without them, cats would probably not be able to climb on tree branches and jump into small high places. They are very important!!

whiskers for cats are very important things. They help the cat to navigate objects, they are like six senses put all into one.
Since cats are color blind and their sense of smell is not as accurate as a dogs, the whiskers do all these things.
