It's not a good idea to have newborns out in public, especially during fall/winter with all the colds and flus going around. If you do need to go out for a quick run to the grocery store or something like that, it's always fine. But they're right the baby shouldn't be out and about all the time.

I used that as an excuse when I didn't want to go to a family reunion my mother-in-law was trying to push me into.
As a first-time, worry-wart mother, I didn't want a lot of people handling him until he was a little older. Plus, I was still really nervous about being a mom, and I didn't want a lot of strangers judging how I held the baby, dressed the baby, feed the baby, burped the baby, etc. until I was a little more confident.
Finally, I used my baby as an excuse because I wanted the freaking stitches to heal before I went to a pressure-filled social event.
Congrats on the new nephew! My advice: cut the lady some slack. Being a new mom is really scary, and home turf can be reassuring til you get your barings.

Bringing my 3 day previous son abode from the medical expert's place of work, i ended by capacity of abode Depot to %. up some factors. He slept soundly in his vehicle seat service interior the procuring cart. I have been given various oohs and ahhs, and he slept interior the process the full element. No injury executed. needless to say you do no longer decide to over do it with too a lot sunlight, or too a lot coping with by capacity of strangers. yet a walk interior the process the mall each and every now and then for an hour or 2 demands no waiting. in case you experience as much because it, and function each and all of the essential factors to feed and sparkling the baby interior the stroller, decide for it. in basic terms understand they gained't wait to get abode to be fed. Have a bottle or a breast waiting considering the fact which you're on their schedule, no longer any incorrect way around. while you're no longer mushy doing that throughout public, then make the holiday between feedings, or have a quiet place in concepts at your trip spot Shrieking babies don't get many ooohs and aaahs. i wish this helps.

well they say a few months. depending on the time of year. The cold weather is the biggest worrie due to respatory problems. I never take my newborns out of the house for at least 6 weeks. I would not go against any mothers rules. Respect what she says.

You can take your newborn out of the house immediately. You just need to be concerned with where you are taking them. Short walks in the neighborhood are fine, as are trips to uncrowded places.
Are long as they don't take the baby to crowded stores, malls, restaurants and places like that they'll be fine. People holding the baby should wash their hands first.

Well you take them out when you leave the hospital don't you? I've heard that Greek tradition is to stay indoors for one month - but how boring is that! Take them whenever you are ready to.I left the hospital the next day after I had my son and 4 hours after i had my daughter. It's personal choice really.

some say not to until the vaccines are done. they used to be done immediately after the birth, but now the docs wait to give the vaccines.
some say that they are too young to get sick.
some say that they will get any virus that's around. (this is virus season, so i would be a bit leery, too)
my dad was born in a bean field. grampa cut the cord with his pocket knife, daddy went to the boob. gramma kept picking.

Sometimes it's cultural, sometimes it's just caution. Personally I took my most recent baby to my daughter's gymnastics when he was two days old. Somebody else's kids tipped my stroller over. Baby was fine. When you have multiple kids, it becomes much harder to keep the baby confined to the home unless you have live-in help like grandparents.

Until his first immunization shots, a vet will say the same about a puppy. Babies are vulnerable to everything the first few months until their immune systems get stronger.
