An acquaintance of mine had a hysterectomy a few months back and now can no longer identify as female. She(or "it" as she self-identifies)won't use a women's bathroom and will go out of her way to find a unisex one, nor will she wear skirts anymore. She even wants to have her driver's license changed so that there is no gender entry on it. A lot of people find this far-fetched, but she("it")just cannot relate with their viewpoint. Any thoughts on this?

My mom went through that when she had her's. I think most women do, because that's what makes us different from men. Men can have boobs, but they can't give birth. I think your friend should talk to a support group, maybe if she realizes she is still herself and she's not alone she'll feel better, because she is still a beautiful woman, inside and out. It was just medically nessicary, I assume. I send my wishes to you both. Good luck

I had a hysterectomy in 2000. It was the best thing I ever did. I am WOMAN here me roar. My surgery was elected. I was tired of the heavy periods. I'm sorry your friend feels this way. Tell her that she is very much female by the design of GOD. Start enjoying your new found safe sex. No hold backs, just FUN,FUN,FUN, and did I say FUN? You will be o.k.

A therapist could help. A lot of women feel defeminized after a hysterectomy-for ex., me. Plus, your hormones are so crazy.

When I was booked for my hyster, I was offered counselling. It was suggested that some women could react in this way, in particular if the hyster was not of their choosing. Perhaps if her ovaries were also removed, this strange change in behaviour could be attributed to menopause?
Get her to a Dr asap.

she obviously doesn't feel female anymore, and since she lacks male genetalia she doesn't feel male either. however, does she still have breasts? those are female organs that are significantly reduced in men.

i think she's just going through a little withdrawal. you should remind her that if she's still got boobs and still looks like a woman, then she should feel free to be the same woman she was before the histerectomy.

The hysterectomy had nothing to do with her state of mind. She was in trouble beforehand.

It sounds like she needs to see a psychiatrist. Seriously.
