All down to boy racers, they buy a rust bucket with a tiny engine - for insurance they can afford - and pour money into bolt ons, including exhausts you could walk up.
With any luck, they live long enough to move on.

There are stupid EU noise laws and cars with loud exhausts usually pass these laws due to engine management flat spots and sometimes active exhausts, Harley Davidson, Mitsubishi and Aston Martin use active exhausts on new vehicles, but if full throttle at 30 in 2nd gear causes a flat spot and no noise it is legal.
However this is a safety section and Quiet cars are the real danger, I have nearly been knocked down by excessively quiet Hondas three times recently and by equally quiet bicycles more times than I care to remember.
Loud exhausts are safe, experts say noise gets left behind but they are mad. Honda should be made to fit noisy exhausts by law

It does seem like the number of vehicles with loud exhausts is increasing... Ever since the "Fast n the furious" movies came out, people are wanting to "mod" out their cars... don't get me wrong, I love the movies and I too have starting moding out my car. I have not added the loud exhaust to my car because I know what it's like to have the loud a** cars driving by at night...
In Elyria, Ohio where I'm at, there is a preset decible that a car can be at (either stereo or exhaust) before it is illegal.... I do know that they check the noise level at 100ft... but I am not sure what exactly the limit is. If you violate the limit, it is a mandatory 350 fine + court cost. On the second offense it is a $500+cost fine, you loose your stereo (they make you watch them destroy it, and you can lose the car. 3rd offense is 1000+cost, 6 months in jail and license suspension

Yes, I think so, Some people by these exhausts to give a sporty sound others use exhausts designed to increase power. Basically exhaust systems reduce the engines power output unless the engine is tuned and fitted with a more effective exhaust to allow the exhaust fumes to escape faster and thus assisting in drawing and distributing the next fuel charge into the cylinder

In the real world trains cause more pollution and consumes more energy, and my reason is that not only trains are burning up diesel fuel and polluting the air but many cars and also buses are waiting on both sides of the tracks with their engines idling what it seems for hours for the train to go by

Heaps of junk they certainly are.
Worthless crap now fills the roads, and they are eyesores as well.
Gone are the glory days of automobiles with luster and nice lines.
Add to these the noise from the vibrating speakers, and its a frigin endless mass of garbage floating on all the roads.
The answer is...CERTAINLY there are way too many noisy, polluting vehicles on roads, and they ought to find a way to reduce it by..say...at least half as much.
Maybe somebody like a Bill Gates can use their smarts to finding other means for transporting people that would be less polluting

If the boyracers saved their money instead of spending £5000 on things to glue on their £100 rust bucket Saxo/Corsa/Punto they would be able to buy a decent car.
PS the loud exhausts make me laugh they look like a drainpipe sticking out the back of the car.

Yes there are, between the louder exhaust systems and booming music they are many louder cars, vehicles. I have been driving without a muffler for four years and live in town and have been next to a cop car while a boom music car come up and the cop doesn't do anything about either one.

Actually, why arn't people looking at it another way..loud exhausts can save lives, as far as padestrians are concerned.
At least with a loud exhaust you can hear the car coming..these quiet engine cars are a danger in themselves...think about it!!!!!

There certainly are more cars around my area, period, and I loathe them. Unfortunately, the building we live in is close to railroad tracks and there a lot more noisy, polluting, building-shaking freights rumbling by, too.
When we first moved to this place, two railroads used to share those tracks, now four or five different railroads use them.
Thank God we are renters and have an open lease!
