Bone isn't solid. It's like a spiderweb with a creamy center (that dogs like to get to) where blood vessels are made. Calcium gets deposited on this webbing which creates the bone. Too much calcium leads to bone spurs.

lots of calcium poured into a mold and baked at 350 for 45 minutes and you got yourself a bone.
