LOL...you're cracking me up! I know what you mean though. It's like the "turn left at the white house with the black shutters, then look for a fork in the road and go around that" Grrrrrrrr! I need route numbers, road names! Nothing else. Makes me wonder how they get anywhere themselves. They probably don't know what GPS is : )

It's just the norm for people to want to make certain you have the correct directions. Many do not understand how GPS works. I think if you just take the time to listen, then they will feel they have told you what you need to know and you will also have a feel of how to arrive there and feel at ease following the GPS equipment.
Don't be annoyed, just explain about the GPS and maybe they will get it that you don't need the detailed directions.

Are you visiting mostly older people? Perhaps they don't know what GPS is. Just listen and say thank you. When the population that understands and uses GPS gets older you will have less problems with this.

People are just trying to be helpful.
If something as insignificant as driving directions annoys you, perhaps you should consider career where you don't need to drive.
Otherwise, learn to accept it and get on with life. Life is too short for this kind of stuff to upset a person.

It's just by nature. We are so used to using a map and GPS is a new gadget. Just thank them and run off.

because they like to help. Just humor them and say ok, thanks. Some people dont even know what a gps is for god's sake. Most of us "regular" people can't afford that crap so we don't expect most people to have one.

Maybe they don't know what GPS is. Or they don't trust technology. Humans error but technology is not perfect either.

Just blow it off. They were trying to be helpful, and probably don't understand the advances in technology that are readily available to us. These "new fangled" things don't register on their brains, and resort to hand gestures while giving us instructions to get to where we need to go. I don't get annoyed, but just smile, say thanks, and go on my way. BTW, navigation systems ROCK!!!!!!
