YES, wow, I am amazed at the answers. The French mounted LePuer(sic) rockets to the Struts between the upper and lower wing. Usually 3 on each side, they were NOT for use against Dirigibles usually, as they often as not could not reach the Zeppelin's altitude. They were in fact most effective against Balloons, used on the front by both sides for observation. The theory was to get as close as possible, and fire the rockets. As balloons were heavily defended by both fighters and AA, this was an extremely hazardous mission. At close range, these rockets were extremely effective.

I wouldn't have tried it. The wing was too weak. One of the Neiuports had a habit of loosing the top wing in a dive. Picture this. A pilot is going about 90 miles an hour top speed in a Neiuport. he has a rocket that will leave a trail of flame behind it. He pushes rocket button, rocket fires, catches cloth wing on fire and knocks it off of the plane. because he hasn't the power to get out of the way of the blast. About this time, the pilot is thinking that the engineers should invent a parachute that works and leave rockets alone.

Not sure if the Nieuport could carry rockets, but I do know that it had guns mounted on the wings. I love that you ask about the Nieuport as its one of my favorite aircraft. I was fortunate to work where someone had built a replica and to see it fly was great, and what was even better was to see it taxi up and park next a jet and see just how far aviation has come over the years!!!

No, The nieuport is a short range jet, that will travel in known area, not in unknown are, its wing can only carry missiles and aniti radar guided bombs. It is called pylon when not to carry it under. "pylon the rockets". Means to dispose it from the jet in mid air, becasue if heavy weight or emergeny reasons. But missiles were not ready for use back then when it was in use.
