Whether homosexuality is manifested due to biological, sociological or psychological influences or (or any combination of the above) has not been scientifically proved.
For the Christian this is not a huge issue. Christians are often expected to act contrary to their inclinations - even the most deep seated inclinations. They do not regard the fact that they are tempted as an evil in and of itself, because temptation is part of the struggle wherein the Christian is perfected and without this struggle no one will be saved.
This is not something that the non-christian would be expected to agree to. For many of them, these very inclinations, which the Christians try and resist (and by no means is this resistance always successful) are accepted as part of their identity, as part of normal existence. In this context it should not be surprising that the non-christian should depise the Christian's struggle and view it as an impossible and perhaps reprehensible war against nature.
Unfortunately it does not help that many Christians seem to be concerned more about how others should be struggling rather than focusing on their own efforts.

OMG!!!! I didn't realise that so many people still think homosexuality is a sin!!!! ??? It's a preference, like everything else in life. If you prefer apple and I prefer grapes, should I have to eat your apples because YOU BELIEVE I should'
I really am gobsmacked!
Look, to all those who think gays and lesbians are sinners : What about all the animals who have or attempt to have same sex.....you know they do, you see cows on cows, same sexed rabbits etc etc etc, so they're all sinners too, are they? Ha ha
sorry but I can't believe that in this day and age prehistoric thinking is well and alive! Absolutely amazing.
OOh and don't worry, you don't have to pray for me, I happen to be straight.
(No offence, this just gets my goat)

People are born with many predispositions--introversion, extroversion; tall, short; cerebral, poetic; practical, flighty; musical, non-musical; etc. Some work in their favor, some against them, and others are neutral. Some religious people may consider homosexuality a negative predisposition; I do not. It's neutral. It is what it is, just as heterosexuality is what it is.
I don't accept that we're born in sin or inherit sin from our ancestors. The very idea seems immoral to me. We are all responsible for our own actions and no one else's.

There exists considerable flaw in what you assert here, and I can only add that considerable reflection may lend greater insight. Quite frankly, only the fairest response would require volumes.
I should add here, please do go and travel; see the world, come to know others' postulates and doctrines, sensibilities and assumptions and thus peer into life to discern the fallacies therein.
Come to distinguish truth from consensual realities and endeavor to know the differences in collective consciousnesses the world over. See the differences in differing geographies, climates, legacies of peoples and their origins with regard to influences fostered by the natural world, because these factors play tremendous roles in what existed before our presumptions on what both time and space is or might be.
Come to know and imagine to know more...
The man or woman of 10,000 years ago is not same of today. Truths now or assumed true are not those of yesteryear and cannot possibly be that have any enduring efficacy.
Spirituality, true spirituality can never be made into a stick with
which to beat others, through such notions as sin. Spirituality is not foreboding, it just is, and Man or Woman or both make of it as they will, but the principles are the same.
No one scholar, be he or she be of Biblical origin or otherwise, has cornered Truth. You are encumbent upon yourself to determine what truth is for yourself and thereby so state it in this context. To absolve of yours as Truth Itself for which all others are falsehood is to lead yourself down the path of delusion if not flat out destruction both for you and those who abide your state...
For every truth, there exists still another truth that proceeds onward and upward above the last, for the mind does expand by dint of that measure of consciousness flowing through it and opening it to wider planes and broader vision.
Do not fall back upon dogmatism, or what someone else owned to even just yesterday much less 2,000 years before this time.
This is all for now. More later.

The argument that homosexuality is a choice is ridiculous. There has never been a moment in my life where I had to choose to be straight or gay, I was attracted to females from the beginning. I wonder if straight Christians had to choose. How many tried it before they decided it was morally wrong? Ask Ted Haggert.
Why would someone choose to get their *** kicked in high school?
Why would someone choose to be hated by their government and much of society as homosexuals are?

Being that homosexuality isn't ACTUALLY a sin and not in ANY way a sickness, it doesn't need to be overcome.
All the passages in the Bible regarding "homosexuality" are either misunderstood, mistranslated or currently irrelevant.
Sodom and Gomorrah was a story that warned us against inhospitableness, xenophobia and rape. The reason for Sodom's destruction is made clear in Ezekiel 16:48-50 and it does NOT mention homosexuality.
The passages in Leviticus were part of the Holiness Code which has been done away with and is no longer binding to modern-day Christians.
1 Corinthians is a mistranslation - the word malakee in this passage is used elsewhere in the Bible to mean someone who lacks discipline or one who is morally weak, and never is it used in reference to sexuality or gender.
1 Timothy is also a mistranslation. 1 Timothy was an admonishment against male prostitution, not committed, loving same sex relationships.
The passage in Romans speaking of homosexuality being "unnatural" was misunderstood. It in fact spoke out against behavior that is uncharacteristic for that person.

I've known people who are gay, but even so I do maintain that it is a sin. And just because someone may have a genetic predisposition to sin, that doesn't mean that they necessarily should. Genes may dictate that you're more likey to become an alcoholic, but that doesn't mean that you should let that genetic predisposition rule your life or control your actions.
That's my thought.

who really cares, on the one hand, if you "choose" to be gay, or your cromosones tend to push you in that direction. we are all wonderful loving and warm people (or have the ability to be, unless we have a mental or emotional illness of some kind), love is love ... leave people alone
it seems that we were given "free will" also, as in choosing our own path, but when we do... we end up in hell, give me a break....
