I got my braces off a month ago and ever since then, getting my retainer my back teeth hurt when I eat meat, like in between the gum area gets sore and tender?

My dentist has told me my teeth and gums are doing ok, since I'm flossing and stuff, but that my gums are a little flappy. What's wrong?

A "little flappy" means that your gums are infected because you have pockets of bone loss around your teeth. I think you need to see a periodontist who will deal with that problem - otherwise those nice straight teeth could fall out.

I had similar issues when my braces were removed in July. With my braces I avoided eating meat (in the form of steaks and jerky). After I got my braces off I enjoyed steak pretty often. ligaments, tendons and crap from the meat would work its way between my teeth and stuck in there).

I would just floss after you eat... better yet use a water pik to make sure no meat (or "meat by product") is stuck back there.

Water pik is awesome for gum health.

Hope this helps.

Your gums and ligaments are still healing from all the braces work done. Meat is pretty tough to eat for your teeth. I would watch out for "tough" meats for a couple of wks and just take it easy still. If the dentist said your teeth and gums are good to go than your good.

My teeth hurt when I eat meat too. Not thick tough meat even thin sliced ham makes my teeth hurt. Just one tooth.

It may be that the cavity you had filled was close to the nerve, and the filling is pressing on it. You can go to the dentist, and they can remove the filling, and put a filling compound with numbing agent in it lower in the tooth, then cover that with the regular filling compound. I had to have that done once. The other option is to wait a while, and the pain should go away on its own, but it may take several weeks.

they're probably still a little irritated from not having that tension there...

so not sure...sorry!

IF YOUR GUMS ARE FLOPPY, ACCORDING TO YOUR DENTIST, THEN YOU MUST MASSAGE THEM. A SAFE AND EFFECTIVE WAY TO DO THIS TO USE AN ORAL IRRIGATOR (WATERPIK). IN A FEW WEEKS YOUR GUMS WILL LOOK GREAT!
