My friend's daughter has been hounding her mom to let her shave her legs, and she's 8! I don't remember shaving my legs at age eight, but I know things are advanced from when I was younger. Her mom has been considering buying Veet, the bladeless hair removal system that uses what looks like a razor, but isn't that too soon too?

If she has leg hair it's not too soon. Children can be brutal so maybe it's because of teasing at school. My best friend's mother wouldn't let her daughters shave their legs until they were in high school and they were teased unmercifully. Find out WHY she wants to shave before you say no.

The question is "Why does she want to shave them?" My kid was 9 when she shaved. We live in a warm climate and her legs were very hairy and the kids at school were making fun of her. She didn't need them to be razor smooth - nor did I want her cutting herself - so I gave he my electric razor (which I was finally allowed to use in the 7th grade - after 3 or 4 years of kids making fun of me) - and she shaved. You have to pick your battles. Why is 8 too young? Because society says so? If she's planning on sleeping with some guy and doesn't want stubbles - then of course the answer is "NO" - but good grief - she's 8. And about 8 or 9 - and especially at 10 and 11 and through the teens - half of a kid's life is about NOT being embarressed. There's no health reason not to do it. And I truly doubt she's trying to look sexy or get them smooth for a guy. The poor little girl is trying to keep from being made fun of. You asked "Isn't that too soon?" No. In my opinion - it's not.

My daughter is 8 she has asked to shave her legs but I told her she is too young and need not to worry about it.

I overheard one of her friends say this summer "wow you have hairy legs".

Since then I have thought maybe she could/should. She is already an extremely self conscious girl. I was probably going to have Santa get her an easy electric shaver.

I like the Veet idea. I might do that.

I am going to check how safe it is. It might be too harsh for her skin.

My daughter is the same way. She is 6 and i will not let her but I did tell her when she is 8. I willl not let her use a razor fear of cuts and not knowing really how to use a razor so i will let her use Nair or others. It will be easier and saver for her. I believe for some girls that age if they have very hairy legs it is ok but if they dont I would say wait as long as you can. My daughter has very hairy legs and it is just getting ugly so I cant wait until she is 8.

8 is too young. I let my daughter use Veet when she turned 11. She started actually shaving at 12.

It's the same thing as a little girl being curious about makeup because she sees her mommy using it. Give her a razor with no blades and some shaving cream and let her have fun. Keep the real ones well out of reach. By the way, tell this woman not to let this little girl ever see her having sex. That's how we get pornstars and pregnant school girls.

If the child has reached puberty (which can begin as young as 7) it is no way too soon, puberty brings on a thickening and darkening of leg as well as underarm hair the child may NEED to shave.

She needs to enjoy her childhood. Does she even have leg hair? Some people have allergies to creams and being so young Id be a little apprehensive to let her use such products. Her mom needs to get down to the root of the problem and have a serious conversation about it.

I personally think 8 is too young, and those hair removal creams can really burn ur skin. Plus, even though I dont have thick hair, it never gets rid of it all for me. I honestly think that if people would stop letting their little girls dress like hookers, they wouldnt have to worry about the hair on their legs. Put some tights on her or something if she MUST wear a skirt.
