Do atheists change the meaning of the words in the bible to suit their own agenda?

Please tell us what:
Revelations 2:20-23 (KJV) "and I will KILL her CHILDREN with DEATH" - Jesus
means without changing the meaning of the words.

Hey you Christians...he just dissed you guys......talk about funny. I get it.....he was asking if atheists twist the bible and used the verse about Jesus KILLING CHILDREN....lol. Don't you get it yet?...he made you look like fools...you guys finally took the verse for what it said..if he would have made it that he was mocking the verse for what it said "literally" you Christians would make up stuff saying Jesus didn't want to kill children...but now since he twisted it..you agree with the verse....too funny!!!!

Yes 99% of people twist the meanings of the bible to suit their own agenda be they Christian, Muslim, Jew, Atheist or other.

The quote you gave is, to my knowledge, (I'm at work and haven't got a KJV bible handy) in reference to the offspring of the whore of Babylon and it means what it says. They will be killed with death - not by the hands of men, by death.

Does it surprise you that in a book about the end of the world, that some people will die?

Our beliefs never have been about having some shiny happy existence. It's only in the last 20 or so years that people have tried to make religion this happy little monster.

The biggest problem with religion is that people try to "interpret" the meanings when they should be reading it literally.

E.g. What part of "Thou shalt not kill" does the human race not understand?

I was unaware that atheists gathered in a large, expensive building once a week to feel better about themselves or went door to door leaving propaganda in posted No Soliciting neighborhoods.

So to what end do atheists have and "agenda?"

Since it's YOUR bible, atheists don't care. Maybe you shold think about that very scripture the next time a Christian justifies killing a doctor for working at a Planned Parenthood clinic. Talk about changing the bible to fit an agenda!

I'm not an atheist, but would not call myself a Christian. I really don't care much about the words of the bible as the books were written by a bunch of old primitive men who put their own values into the book. God, Jesus, did not write this book, so the words mean little to me as a whole although it does contain a great deal of wisdom (like all holy books) It is also good history.

I'm sure some do, but just look at your one-way question. Christians change the meaning of the words in the Bible to suit their own agenda too. I mean, you can pretty much take anything out of that book and have it support your beliefs whatever they may be. No offense or anything.

Looks like he has a pretty good case on his verse...so you agree with those words then? Jesus likes killing children? If you want to wine that "the bible wasn't written in that language" then you would also lose since the New Testament was written in Greek and easy to translate precisely. (Old Testament was written in Hebrew..even though Christians want to claim Hebrew can be mistranslated and is harder to translate than Greek,because of all the bible flaws, they fail on that one as well).

I am not sure what you mean -
the original words weren't in english so there is already ambiguity there.
Furthermore words change meaning over time and the bible was written a long time ago.
Thirdly things can have more than one meaning - literal, allegorical, metaphysical, subtextual.

If you don't like interpretation then i suggest you stay away from the bible it will bring you out in hives.

I am not sure what you are getting at, but here is the entire Scripture you referred to and it sounds pretty clear. The background of the verses sited is in one of the letters to the seven congregations. Jezebel, a pagan princess, is written about in the Hebrew Scriptures and she had all the prophets of Jehovah killed, then fed and cared for 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of the sacred pole from her own table at the states expense. She did everything in her power to obiterate the worship of Jehovah. Revelation is referring to persons who practice Jezebel type behaviors.

Revelation2:20-23: "“‘Nevertheless, I do hold [this] against you, that you tolerate that woman Jez´e·bel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and misleads my slaves to commit fornication and to eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent, but she is not willing to repent of her fornication. 22 Look! I am about to throw her into a sickbed, and those committing adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds. 23 And her children I will kill with deadly plague, so that all the congregations will know that I am he who searches the kidneys and hearts, and I will give to YOU individually according to YOUR deeds.

The naming of Jezebel is not right. Jezebel refers to a pagan queen, wife of Ahab in kings. A very loyal woman to Ahab but hated by rivals in the priesthood. This name is meant as a slur and an insult to a class of people in the Thyrenian Church questioning the demands of the priests. There is much more to the passage and the references that they used. There is not enough space to go into all the details here.
You should learn to quit taking text out of context to make a point when trying to attack atheists. Most atheists have studied the books a lot more completely than you have. We are not weak minded children.
