I have never owned a female dog before. Tinkerbell came out of heat 7-10 days ago as normal. only her teats stayed really long and swollen, now they have gone down in size but they are swollen underneath. To me they look like pups have been nursing (obviously not like but that is what it looks like).
She is 11 months old and I do have another male dog. I was very strict about keeping them separate but my husband was not all too bothered (grr) so there is a possibility she can be.
I do not know the beginning signs of a dogs pregnancy is. I'd like to find out and be prepared for it and have 60 days not 6!!

I do want pups at some point, I just didn't expect it so soon if she is. I just think she is a tad young.

after their first heat their teats do swell a little and never go back completely as they were before.

i think you could take her to the vet and he could check her out for you.

why don't you get them spayed and/or neutered? then you wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.

My dog had puppies 4 weeks ago today, i went through exactly what you are going Through now and even Though hers was a planned pregnancy i still was not sure if she was or not. There are only certain times in her season she can be caught between her 9th and 13th day. Her teats will get more swollen and they change colour but you probably wont feel the pups until she is about 4 weeks gone. The only thing i would say to you is make sure you build a whelping box for her about 2 weeks before ( so she has time to get used to it) and make sure that you have a heat lamp and a hot water bottle handy just in case but keep the heat lamp on all the time as puppies can not regulate their own body temperatures for the first few weeks of their life and they need to keep warm . Hope mum will be OK you will be fine mum will do most of the work but always keep in touch with your vet

good luck

At 11 months, we can only hope she is not pregnant. That is the equivalent of about a 14 year old child having a baby. It is very possible, but the mind and the body are not usually mature enough to handle the strain.
If she is pregnant be sure you husband has to sit up all night with you and her as she suffers through labor, he will be much more concerned with her welfare the next time.

If she is pregnant, this is a site worth its weight in gold for pets (and humans) preparing for 1st time puppies.

A condition like this should be brought to the attention of your veterinarian. Yes, she could be pregnant (female dogs become fertile around 5-6 months), but there may also be an underlying health condition.

I don't mean to lecture - but how could you possibly plan on breeding if you don't even know what pregnancy looks like, and you have careless family members? Breeding should be left to knowledgable and experienced people only who are looking to further the quality of a breed.

Please take your pup to the vet. And please consider neutering/spaying both of the dogs - these operations greatly decrease the risk of testicular/prostate cancer and mammary/ovarian cancer in dogs. It's worth it. The possible future puppies aren't.

It is much too early to tell right now. You can take her to the vet for an ultrasound when she is about a month along. She is young to have pups. She should have been 18 mo to a year, but the deed has already been done.

anything is possible if you have a male dog and a female dog that is in heat! just pay attention to her size if she gets bigger in the stomach than yeah you probably will and all. if she does end up having pups tell your husband to prepare to get involved since this is partially his fault. GOOD LUCK I WAS IN THE SAME BOAT YOU ARE

It may be that your little girl is having a phantom pregnancy, ours had one on her last season. They show all of the signs of being pregnant; a little moody, snappy and off colour. The vet said that they can even lactate and can use toys as pseudo puppies.

It is very hard to tell the difference between the two but a vet should be able to tell by the temperature and a feel of the tummy - ours could.

Ours snapped out of it quite swiftly, we just had to keep her occupied.

This is common (teat swelling), but it may also be a sign of pregnancy...or a sign of false pregnancy. My dog almost always has a false pregnancy after her heat...blah. If you're concerned, give you vet a call, and see what he/she thinks.

I do not know anything about dogs being pregnant because I would never breed my dog intentionally or unintentionally. I have my dogs fixed ASAP and you should too! There are 27 million unwanted pets turned into shelters each year and many are euthanized! Why would you want to add to that? PLEASE DON'T LITTER, FIX YOUR CRITTER!
But yes, if you suspect she is take her to the vet.
Another thing- your dogs behavior will change after breeding. Your males will become more aloof and will always be "searching" for a female, more likely to run away too.

she possibly could be. have her checked by your vet and discuss your options. at 11 months shes only a baby herself and i would say not mature enough to become a mum.
