Look and/or post on the free section of craigslist.

check out FREECYCLE in your area... they are an online community of people who give things away rather than filling our landfills with more junk.

I have personly gotten rid of a fairly nice recliner, our new apt was too small for all of our furniture. I have also given away a window A/C unit to an elderly woman who needed it.

I see everything from used scrap wood to home furnishings, baby food/formula, clothes, 1/2 used cans of paint in all colors, soaps and lotions and garden plants offered up on my local freecycle.

go to a search engine and type on freecycle and your city.. or the closest large city near you. They are all over the country... Good luck and Congrats

I am not sure what state you reside but a lot of churches and community partnerships give away donated furniture. Also, call rental places because they are known for throwing out good furniture. Also try craiglist

You can do as I did, go to various thrift shops and look around. After that, I started hitting antique stores to find rickety furniture and then took it home, knocked it apart, and put it together again - refinishing it.
