This site below talks about temperament. It is in all psychology books for early childhood education. This will help.

Some babies are more expressive, some more timid. Some are very physically active, and some are more sedate. Some are sensitive to loud noises, while others are not bothered at all. Some thrive when surrounded by people, while others are content to play alone quietly. These differences are what we call temperament, and much of this becomes evident in the first few months after birth.

As parents, it is important to recognize the basic temperament of your child, so you can respond appropriately. For example, if your child's temperament is timid, introduce new activities slowly and allow time for him to build up confidence. If your child's temperament is highly active, give advance notice of changes, so she doesn't fly off the handle. And, if your child's temperament is easy-going, remember that even though she copes well, you are still needed - so check in and stay connected.

Temperment is how one acts in a situation regarding emotions. (Just consider the word to be like temper.)
When a toy breaks, does the child cry and feel like the situation is hopeless?
When a kid takes a toy away from them do they fight back?
When they do something wrong, do they act like they're feeling shamed? or do they hide it? or lie and blame others?
Are they easy to get mad?
The answers to these form their temperment.

Temperament is the whole scale not just normal behaviors. Like a thermometer, we all have a temperature. The thermometer just measures it. A temperment is where the child's mood characteristics fall on the scale. Hot tempered. Even-keeled. Easy going. Easily frustrated. Independent. Challenging of all things. Accepting of things without question.

Oh, and it's not just reserved for describing children.

The temperament in children is the quality of mind, a prevailing or dominant quality of mind that characterises them.

Does he/she have a happy temperament most of the time or an angry temperament most of the time???
