Can't find my mother's recipe but this one looks close:

BROCCOLI SALAD WITH BACON

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 c Mayonnaise
1/2 c Sugar
1/4 c Vinegar
2 1/2 lb Broccoli (or 2 big bunches)
1 c Shredded sharp cheddar
- cheese
1/2 lb Bacon, crisp fried and
- crumbled

Whisk together mayonnaise, sugar and vinegar and set aside. Cut
broccoli into florets and combine in large bowl with cheese and
bacon. Toss with mayonnaise dressing. Cover and chill overnight
before serving.

Some folks put raisins and stuff in it but I think that's nasty - lol My sister in law makes one that uses a package of ranch dressing powder mixed in with the mayo and it's pretty good. I think my mother uses chopped red onion in hers... this isn't helpful... sorry :( I'll keep looking for her recipe - lol

Not to be judgemental, but that sounds kind of gross. I would suggest making it into a chopped salad. Cut up the broccoli into the size you want (for a chopped salad I'd go small pieces). Next, cook up the bacon until it is crispy and crumble that into the chopped broccoli. Assuming the cheese is grated or shredded already, sprinkle that over the top and mix it in. The mayo is the dressing, so that gets added to taste (how ever much you personally like) and then I'd salt and pepper it to give it more flavor, maybe add some other spices. It sounnds kind of like a salad like potato or macaroni salad, so do it like that. If there is a different type of salad you are imagining then I have no idea. Using straight mayo as a traditional style salad dressing is a little odd, so I don't think that you are looking for a straight type salad. Good luck.
