Apperently everyone who has answered so far doesn't know statistics that well. It is also not a tax on people who don't know math either. It is a tax on poor people without them realzing it. Rich people don't need to play the lottery and I know a few rich people who are bad at everything. There are some lotteries with as good a chance as 1 in 3.1 and then there are lottires that have astronomical odds, pretty much anything over 1 in 300 gets put in that catagory. The asker didn't say what lottery he/she is playing in. It is not a "fix" as you so put it. People have won lotteries. People are still winning the lottery. People will continue to win the lottery.

Fix implies that there is some impropriety. It implies that there is a conspiracy out there to prevent you from winning or to ensure that others can win, while you cannot.
You have to understand that the chances of winning the jackpot are ridiculously small. Various people have already given you some improbable examples of just how unlikely it is, and it really is that unlikely. You are far more likely to be killed by a drunk driver on the way to buy your ticket, than actually win.
The only fix is that by making so many numbers available, and adding a Powerball or equivalent, you are creating a system in which there are literally over 100,000,000 combinations. With such a big random number system the chances of winning are ridiculously small. This does not make it a 'fix.'

Well, like the California State Lottery. You have a better chance of getting bitten by a shark, and struck by lightning twice all in the same day than you do winning the lottery.

You haven't won because the lottery has a million plus to one chance of you winning. You have a better chance of being hit by lightning twice in the same place.
The people who run the lotteries count on people not realizing the terrible odds of winning.

The lottery is a tax for people who are bad at math. Don't hold your breath waiting for your check to come.
