A photograph can be in any medium (film, digital, etc) and for any purpose (ie. family snapshots, identification cards, advertisment, art, etc) as long as it is a "still" photo and not video (or taken from video) or motion picture film (as that would make the numbers truly astronomical). The year could be specfically 2005 or based on tendencies of the last 5 years or so (taking into accout the digital photography boom).

Taken? That number is impossible to determine. Expecially with digital media, where you can erase unwanted exposures. With film, you could at least look at sales figures of film, work in a fudge factor for partial rolls shot. You asked about being taken, not developed or enlarged, so who is to know.

What a stupid question. How would anyone know how many photographs were taken in a specific period of time. Do you have a BRAIN?
