Hey I'm 19 and recently moved out to another country to study abroad. It's been 2 months, I am not too homesick, doing well in studies; only problem is that I have a serious lack of appetite. I don't feel like eating anything and most of the time, I eat only half of my burger...or nothing. I'm rarely hungry. it might be because of campus food instead of home-made food; or maybe change of climate- it's very cold here. But I'm worried about it now because my jeans are becoming slackier and I'm losing weight.
I began exercising more and joined a yoga club.
Any other advice on how to INCREASE appetite? Thanks so much!

EDIT: I dont want to lose any more weight because I'm already thin enough and my BMI is only 18. I should put ON weight, not lose any! but for some reason i've never been a big-eater and this is becoming worse now that i'm moved away from home. I am literally forcing myself to eat sometimes....yikes

BMI=18, ok - i would definitely see a doctor just to have a check up & get some answers that are right for you

Are you a "nervous" person - i don't mean anxious - just that you have a lot of nervous energy - if so then you will naturally loose weight

Cold climates make us burn energy faster, so it's easy to see why you might loose weight if your energy output is now greater, but you are eating the same

Partly you may be homesick and finding it a problem being motivated to feed yourself

I'm a bit worried that you are eating burgers - not the healthiest thing you could eat - lots of saturated fats etc.

I would see a doctor just in case, as it is impossible to say what is right for you without seeing you & discussing your habits & lifestyle.

I would always advocate eating good, natural, healthy food whatever you do

Why do you WANT to increase your appetite? Unless you are becoming emaciated I would not worry about it. You're exercising, that's good. Are you just losing fat, or muscle too? It's probably just because you are not use to the food...that is, if the food is different from what you are use to. I know when I go to Mexico I lose some of my appetite. It's not that I don't like the food, I'm just not use to it. I'm use to satisfying my appetite for Gringo food and when I have Mexican I just need to adapt to it. Yes, it's good, but I have urges for certain things and this food is not satisfying that urge. So I just eat enough to get by and when my body thinks it's eaten enough, I stop eating. I wouldn't worry about it because your body isn't going to allow itself to starve. Listen to your body, if you want to eat, eat. If your not hungry, don't eat. Just make sure you get plenty of fluids so you don't get dehydrated. I'd just go with the flow. If you lose some pounds, so be it, your not going to die. Sooner or later you will get use to your foreign diet, but if you just wind up eating less because of your new food, just think of the money you'll save ;-)

do you loose or gain weight easily? i don't loose or gain weight very easily at all - which is good because my appetite really decreased over this summer for reasons i'm not sure of, i too only eat maybe a half a burger or something. if you're still healthy and not loosing too much or any weight, i don't think it's a problem.

I'd speak with a doctor. Loss of appitite is such a broad symptom, that it could be almost anything...or nothing. Or it could just be that your body is going through a cycle where it doesn't need much food. I know you're not a kid, but you could still be in the stages of growth where you go through periods of not eating much. The only thing I know of that increases appitite is marijuana, but I don't recommend it. lol.
