Is there any flag etiquette rule against decorating the flag pole that holds and american flag?

Like with christmas decorations, ribbon, etc.

The only existing flag etiquette when flying the American flag at night is having an overhead light shine on it. Decorating the pole itself is something I'd never considered because I wouldn't want anything to detract from the flag flying in its glory.

Not sure but I think it is okay as long as not other flag flies above the Stars and Stripes.
