Australian Cattle Dog is the official name. Responsible dog breeders are always worried about their "image" as knowledgeable and correct. Using the correct terminology is an important part of that.

Blue Heeler is the nickname or slang term for Australian Cattle Dog. There is nothing wrong with the name, its just not recognized by any kennel club or breed registry.

They are the same dog the australian cattle dog is the acual name of the breed and the blue(or red) heeler is the nick name. It's like Shetland sheep dogs are often called Shelties.

They are the same dog. Variations on the name include:

Australian Heeler, Hall's Heeler, Queensland Heeler, Blue Heeler, Australian Cattledog, Australischer Treibhund.

"Heeler" refers to its herding skill of snapping and biting cattle's heels. Its talents are retrieving, herding, guarding, agility, competitive obedience, and performing tricks.

The real name is "Australian Cattle Dogs.'

Blue tick heelers (or some variation of that) is what the good ole boys who breed them out in the backyard and don't do registrations, pedigrees or anything else call them.

Yup, this too says they are the same dog, just different names. Sounds like that girl either doesn't like hearing the nick names, or doesn't know what she's talking about... which is scarey if she's a breeder of them.
