I agree. I dont think that he should be FORCED to work. once he is of age he will have to work for the rest of his life so he should be allowed to be a kid while he is still a kid. Plus if he is forced into it then he will resent you and not like working at all. I agree on your thinking as far as if he wants money than he can work for it not get it for free. that is where he will be learning responsbility because he will be working to get whatever it is that he wants instead of it being handed to him.

Guess it depends on the living situations. I personally HAD to work from age 7 up if I wanted to eat and have more than one outfit to wear. I mowed yards, babysat and all of that. When I turned 13 I started to work 2 part time jobs year round that lasted til I was 15 and able to find a good full time job and I also moved out on my own when I was 15 I have been out on my own since then!

No, in fact Im not sure he can even get a work permit before hes 14. I agree with you, he should have some 'jobs' and responsibilities which he is paid for but a 13 yr old should not be working full time and he should certainly not be forced to. Child labor laws anyone???

Well, personally, I dont think a 13 year old should be forced to work....he is at the very last stages of childhood, and entering into being a teenager! Let him be a child for just a little longer....he will appreciate you for it later!

who ever is making a kid whos just 13 work is only doing that cause they dont want him around thats the only reason.i didnt even know that a 13 yr old kid can work that young unless they babysit or something like that.the state law in TN is teens 15 yrs and older can work at a real job but kids younger can work but not at a real job.but anyways NOONE should force a 13 yr old to work, thats bs.i was 13 when i started babysitting but I WANTED to not because my parents was forcing me.i think that u need to ask the labor board about labor laws in your state cause i believe that its against the law for a kid that young to work at a real job.

Full time....no, I don't think they should even be allowed. At 13, they are still a child. They shouldn't have to work to support themselves.....hence the parents are responsible until they are 18! Plus, okay work full time for money to spend...and have no time to spend it.

Depends, what type of work are you talking about?
Are you talking about throwing him in a coal mine?
I think part time is a more realistic choice for a 13 year old. Or Summer Camp!

I think that he should do some work with pay during the summer but not his whole summer. A child needs some recreation time off too.

Unless he is working for the family - where would that be legal??

NO child should be forced to work. If he wants to work, limit it to no more than 20 hrs a week -- he NEEDS play time.

It is illegal in Australia and for good reason. This is a young boy who is going through puberty and so many changes, he needs a break and to have some fun, he will spend the rest of his life working, not now.
