You can walk your cat, try the harness at home first, for short periods, to get the cat used to it. Most cats initially hate having a harness on, and getting them used to it is half the battle.

Once he used to it, attach the leash and try walking around the house, many cats do not like to be lead around by someone else, so that's another hurdle you have to get over.

When you are ready to bring the cat outside, make sure the harness is on properly and cat cannot get out (and make sure it isn't too tight at the same time) and take small trips around the yard.

It's a slow process but it can be done.

I have trained three six month old cats to walk with a harness and a leash. Not all at once mind you! When you first put the harness on the cat will lie down and not move, so just leave it. Then take if off and put it on another day. After a while, maybe a few days the cat will be moving around the house freely and then you can attach a leash and go out. Just have the harness on when you are at home with the cat as he could get it caught on something and harm himself if you are not around.

Choose a time and place to take the cat out where there will be no dogs or noisy traffic to freak him out. Mostly he will walk YOU. It will take a while to get him to walk in any way as you would walk a dog. Be very sure the leash is wrapped around your wrist a few times. A "spooked" cat can pull it out of your hand very quickly.

Everyone mentioned both the harness and the leash and you must use both. Cat necks are very delicate and if you only had a collar and leash you could hurt him severely.

Yes you can walk them on a leash. By walking, I do not mean around the shops or at a park, just around your house.

I take my 6 month old kitten outside once a week to go out the front and back for a 15-20 minute 'walk'. As she is an inside cat, she enjoys playing in the grass and trying to catch flies and butterflies. You should strat training her/him soon or they will not like being 'walked' on a leash.

Only keep him/her around your house. Do not walk them down your street, on a road, at the park, or anywhere were they can get injured or possibly run off.

I guess you live in a big city, or at least an urban area. If not a leash and harness isn't really necessary. A lot of cats will just follow you. Mine do at least. But yes they'll learn to walk on a leash unless they're finicky and don't like the harness or are independant/stubborn and prefer to do their own thing. It really depends on your cat.

My cat George walks very well on leash, but then I think he's part dog sometimes... Just keep putting the leash and harness on and take him out he'll get the idea fast.

The trick is to use a harness, which goes around the body behind the front leg, and around the neck as well. This keeps the cat from choking itself and keeps the cat from becomming afraid of the harness.

ya. I had a cat as a child, that liked to take walks with my family, and for her safety, she had a leash that was made for a "toy" size dog. At 1st she tried biting it, and using her hind paws to get it off, but after about a month, she got use to it.

that all has to do with the cat and how stubbern it is, also how much you practice with it, maybe if you put it on a leash and let it walk around the house freely so it could get used to it then slowly graduate from there
