I think the shrinks call it transference. Or projection.
Ok, I don't know what it's called. But here's how it works:
1. Haggard discovers he really likes sex with men.
2. His church says sex with men is wrong.
3. He's confused. He likes sex with men, but he thinks it's wrong.
4. He slams gays because he can't slam himself.
Psychologists have a field day with this stuff. The gist of it is that he's a pathetic (in the classic sense of the word, deserving pathos), small human being (assuming all this stuff is true). He deserves compassion, but he also owes a bunch of people apologies.
Really what he's done isn't as important as the message it sends. Hypocrisy cannot be tolerated in our divided world. It's fine to be firm about something, but hypocrisy undermines any integrity the man had. This isn't really a religious issue; I assume God forgives the repentant. This is about integrity. If you have it, you do what you say you do.

It wasn't his fault. It was the meth that he bought from his male prostitude (whom he saw for 3 years) that was doing the talking.
Do you think Jesus will forgive him?

What a friggen Hypocrite! (and I'd suspect that regardless of your religious beliefs, you'd all have to agree with that!)
oh- and coguy, *You* may doubt his guilt, but Haggard fessed up and admitted to the accusations. Sorta' funny. You doubt he's guilty but probably don't doubt the existence of heaven, hell, Jesus, etc. Get some rationality!

WOW!! I didn't know the wheels of justice moved this fast. I just heard the accusations this morning.Here it is in the afternoon and he has already been arrested, indicted, tried, convicted and sentenced. All in one day!!!!
Man, our justice system moves lightning quick!!
