The Aerostars are notorious for rusting out the bottom panels, so I'll be surprised if there are any still on the road, unless you reside in a part of the country where rust, snow or salt on the roads is not an issue. The Windstars had engine problems from '95 to '98 model years. The '99 to 2000 model years had upper intake gasket problems. The 2001 to 2003 model years are the best to purchase. I haven't heard of any problems with them so far. The 2004 to current Freestars are pretty reliable too. The only issue they are having so far, is premature wearing of the rear brake linings. But Ford is aware of this concern, and I'm sure they are working on releasing updated rear brake pad linings for these vehicles. Hope this helps.

Ford has lost their reputation on quality and reliability. I know of a friend who owned a Ford Windstar and had to take it to a shop 15 times (He purchased it off a dealer brand new. 2001). Has more electrical and engine problems. Why not try a Toyota Sienna CE, LE, or XLE? Or Chrysler Town & Country? But, test drive for yourselves and see if the Ford Windstar is a good van or the ones I listed above.

I even have owned the two, and neither one in each and every of them have been very sturdy. The Windstar replaced into certainly the WORST motor vehicle I even have ever owned -- I had extra problems with that element than all the different autos I even have ever owned blended. The Caravan had transmission hardship and motor mounts that wore out. I had to combat with Chrysler to get them to hide the transmission restore below guarantee, even nevertheless I had the problem nicely previously the guaranty ran out, and the motor mounts wore out quickly after the guaranty expired. One poster already stated Honda or Toyota, and that i agree -- their minivans are a lot extra helpful than something placed out by capacity of the great 3. The Nissan Quest replaced into additionally a incredibly darned sturdy minivan (I had the Mercury Villager, which replaced into surely the comparable motor vehicle, and it lasted me over a hundred and sixty,000 miles), yet i'm unsure if Nissan continues to be making the hunt...

If you are buying a new van, you won't be able to get either a Windstar of Aerostar. They are both discontinued.
I recommend the Honda Odyssey as the best in it's category.
