i have a restraining order against someone that i have had for a few years. the judge usually reissues it for a year, but this time, she looked at a printout of something (not sure what) and made the restraining order permamant. i've never heard of this, and i was wondering what constitutes a permanent restraining order? i know other people who have it worse off than me (the person they have their order on is a much more damaging individual) and they have to go every year. im not complaining, im ecstatic, im just curious. thank you!

I'm sure the judge looked at how long the restraining order had already been in affect and that fact that you come to keep to keep it intact. The judge probably also pulled the criminal history of whoever the order is against and decided to stop wasting your time every year and make it permanent. Just make sure that you always have a copy with you otherwise the police won't be able to do much without being able to see it and verify that it exists and that it is still good.
