He knew i like him, and him and my friend liked each other. He was gunna ask her out but asked me on msn if they started going out if I would be mad. I said no because I wanted them to both be happy.
Then he said that was the exact answer he needed to NOT ask her out?

You know if I were you I would not blame myself I feel you have nothing to do with it. He proboly did not like your friend all that much as everyone thought think about it, it makes no sence it seems this boy is just playng games

Sounds to ME like he was testing you, and you passed.
You indicated that you wouldn't be nasty about it because you were more concerned about his happiness.
By stating that last bit, he indicated that he was going to remain availible, for now at least. Which suggests he's hoping you'll take the oppourtunity to let him know how you feel about him.
Or at least that's what it sounds like to me.

Sound to me like he wants to be with you, you need to find out exactly how he feels about you, and if he into you, you need to give your best friend an explanation.

he likes you and wanted to hear you say yes you would be mad. he was going to ask her out because he wanted you to be pissed off and jealous. when you said you'd be happy for them, then he knew it wouldn't make you upset, so that was his answer/he can't use her to piss you off, so he don't need her.

because he knew by your response that he might hurt you and he obviously cares about your feelings. Now care about his and mean it when you tell him that you are okay with it.
