I do know your pain, all to well....sigh... I only wish our dogs could live as long as we do..But, you need to allow yourself to grieve.. the great loss is real, the great pain is real, so don't deny your self the grieving process, especially fueled by those in your world who will say..its just a dog...
but remember you dog, and hold on the the dearest memories..don't remember the pain and suffering, but do remember all of the joys of having such a best friend...
One way to keep him living on, is to save a life, in his honor..when you feel up to it, consider adopting a shelter dog, and saving a life in dedication to your dog's love..And here is a good place to start> http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?action=1&pet.Animal=Dog&pet.Breed=&pet.Age=Young&pet.Size=S&pet.Sex=&location=33428&preview=1&scope=0&x=9&y=6

My heart is broken for u. There is nothing to do.Have a good cry whenever u want. Make an album of his/her photos. Remember all the funny things he/she did to make u smile. It wont get better, u will just get used to the pain. I know this may not be the exact situation, but...
Here is a poem for u. Print this out and put it up somewhere.
A Dog's Prayer
If it be I grow frail and weak
And pain should wake me from my sleep,
Then you should do what must be done,
For this last battle can't be won.
You will be sad I understand
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test,
we've had so many happy years,
what is to come will hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer...so
When the time comes,
Please let me go.
Take me where all my needs they'll tend,
But stay with me until the end.
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you too will see,
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail has its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Do not greive that it should be you
Who must decide this thing to do
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
Smile, for we walked together for a little while.

Yes,,,i know how that feels and like somebody already answerd...
Rainbow Bridge...but keep reading to the end!!!
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Her bright eyes are intent; her eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
this poem brightens the way when you feel down and brings back memories which might be hard to except right now!Do not rush into getting another dog either.....take your time and try to think about what your dog would like you to do best weather it would be to adopt one or buy one or wait to find one on the side of the raod inn need of help!!But remeber that if you do get another dog you are not replacing the other one, because believe it or not, all animal lovers have hearts that can expand to be bigger then life so you can fit even the largest of animals and the bbiggist quantity into thier hearts.....but your heart never will feel eempty, believe it or not, after a loss because you will still feel have good memories!!
Good luck to you--i wish i could do more to help!

I'm really sorry for your loss. It is so sad when you lose a pet. It is like part of the family. My dad recently lost a dog and the whole family grieved for little Axel. We all live on our own and have even before dad got the dog but dogs are so loving. If people were like dogs we would have a much better world. My friend says that God put dogs on earth to teach us how we are supposed to treat people.
Give it time and when your ready rescue one from the pound. I know it sounds silly but those animals know when they've been rescued and are even more loyal.
Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I am very sorry for your loss. I lost a dog to cancer about a year and a half ago, and I still think about him all the time. One thing I will say is do not rush into another dog right away. It took about six months before I was ready to start looking, and it didn't take long after that to find the perfect dog in need of rescuing. Best of luck, and again, I am very sorry for your loss.

Unfortanantly it hurts for a little while. My dog AND cat died in the same week last summer and it hurt for a loooong time. It's just part of the grieving process. You may be mad for a while too. My cat was 14 and my dog was 7. It will get better but you will still think about them from time to time too.

I am sooooo sorry! There is really no way to move on- my cat died last year when i was at the airport. I am still not over it! Only time will let you get over it. I know your dog was very special to you and i am very sorry that this happened. Just cry all you need to because that is one of the best ways to stop thinking about him.

Know that he is in doggy heaven now. Also know that a replacement dog could be coming your way as soon as Christmas. Just think of the good times you had with the dog. Also, time helps us get by these problems. Best of luck and God bless
