Since most people in this country cannot even tell the difference between a Mexican,a Honduran, or an Argentinian.

The US Border Patrol Is An INNEFFECTIVE Agency
And They Are Fighting An Unwinnable War
At Our Southern Border
I Think That The US Border Patrol Should Be Liquidated
All Border Patrol Assets Should Be Designated
To The National Guard
Border And Port Security Should Be Charged
To A Joint National Guard / Coast Guard Task Force
Border Patrol Agents Will Be Given An Option
To Become Ranking National Guardsmen
And Will Play Key Roles During The Transition
ie : Militarize The Borders And Ports
We Live In A Post 9 / 11 World
National Security SHOULD Be A Number 1 Priority

Do you know how many miles that is? The government does not have enough money to hire and pay the added border patrol that it would take to cover this much land. Plus most of the autos and equipment are old and wore out. The government has let this go so long, the a fence is cheaper, and it is costing over a billion dollars to build it.

People don't realize how huge the border is--about 3000 miles--you cannot have an agent every 6 feet. Think of that!
But you can erect a wall at the most popular crossings to stop them from coming. It's a good thing. It's not about the BP not being trained, believe me.

The adding of many new border patrol agents will help. And if they are trying to cross the border illegally who cares if they cant tell the difference, they know hes illegal and that's all they will need to know. This fence is not an ordinary fence ,it is very high technology and has
sensors to detect any tunneling .It also is nothing like the fence in California but that fence is working. They have apprehended a higher number of illegals and even tho they were pushed in to AZ to cross ,the AZ Border Patrol also has very high numbers of captures and deportations.
The U.S. can and should secure the borders and coasts, because national security and defense is the basic purpose of the military. Securing our borders, the right of any sovereign nation, is not isolationism or xenophobia. It is simply national security and defense. Also, it can be done quite easily at a cost of about $8 billion initially, and about $10 billion annually for over 153,000 border patrol (three shifts of 51,000). $10 billion per year is minuscule compared to the $70 billion in annual net losses due to illegal aliens burdening our education, healthcare, hospital, ER, welfare, Medicaid, Social Security, Medicare, border patrol, insurance, law enforcement, prison, and voting systems.
$10 billion per year is less than the $10.5 billion in annual losses for California alone, due to illegal aliens.
$10 billion per year is far less than the $27.3 billion for pork-barrel for year 2005.

The Border Patrol are very well trained. The problem is they have 2100 miles of Border to Patrol and they are hindered in doing their jobs by higher ups. Two Border Patrol agents were recently tried, convicted, and sentenced to 10+ year jail terms for doing their jobs. Apparently it is against policy to chase drug smugglers. They have to say pretty please will you pull over and stop so that I can arrest you? No, OK well then you have a nice day, my superiors will not allow me to chase you..please drive carefully though.
What the Border Patrol needs is more men, better equipment, and a management structure that actually SUPPORTS the job they are doing. They need a department of Homeland Security and US Attorney Generals office that works in concert with them instead of against them.

It is way under staffed. But a concrete wall the size of Chinas' Great Wall would be just fine by me. If the Chinese coud do it 1000 years ago or more why can't we?
Maybe we could take the majority of our troops out of Iraq and put them on our southern border.

Batrol Patrol Agents undergo intense traning, more training would be great but unrealistic. Illegals are crossing the border in masses and they cannot keep up with the influx.

I think that you need both, a physical barrier, and an honest, effective Patrol behind it. Do both=problem 95% solved. The other 5% can be made up by getting Mexico to finally admit they have A Problem, and that it's time for them to do something about it besides beg more money from us...
